CHAPTER ONE

The lawyer Joseph Brown sat in his comfortable office chair. He had been in charge of the Montgomery family fortune for years. In the room was Crispin Montgomery’s sons and daughters. Michael who was the eldest, the fraternal twins Edward and Ruth and the youngest Veronica.

They were all so eager to listen to their fathers will. They all knew of course that most of the family fortune was going to be left in the care of Michael it was only fair since he was the oldest.
Michael had a distant look on his face for he knew it was just a matter of time before he was proclaimed the protector of the family fortune

“In a very short while I will be reading your father’s last will and testament. Before I begin is there anyone that would like to say anything?” The lawyer said.

When he got no response. He opened his drawer and pulled out a large brown envelope. Carefully opening it he pulled out the papers that were in it and laid them on his desk. He picked up one paper and began reading,

“If you are listening to this it must mean I am dead and you are all must be waiting to hear what I left you. Don’t worry I didn’t leave anyone out.  To Veronica, oh my sweet pretty little princess I leave a sum of Five million dollars, to the twins Edward and Ruth I leave ten million dollars to be shared between them. And to the eldest Michael I leave Five million dollars. But the estates, the mansions, the companies and all the family fortune I leave for any of my children that will prove to be the wisest neither of you took it upon yourselves to learn anything about me when I was alive, and I don’t blame you for not doing so of course.
I have led out a path for you on your quest for the family fortune. In the envelope you will find a clue to get you started, remember only the wisest among you will inherit the fortune. If by the end of thirty days no one has found the right answers, I have left strict orders and instructions for all the family fortune to be given to charity.”

Joseph picked up another paper from the sheets of paper on his desk and read out loud what was written on it;

Walk in my ancient days to find the answers that you seek. The answer that you seek lies in the city, the birth of life.”

“I am sorry. But what is all this? Some kind of treasure hunt? This is crazy.” Michael said an angry note to his voice.

“I am sorry Michael there is nothing I can do. Your dad wanted it done this way. I tried to talk him out of it but he insisted that you will understand why he has done this. That’s all he said.” Joseph said.

“This is absurd, he doesn’t expect us to compete against each other for the fortune.” Michael continued.

Joseph picked up the paper he had been reading and continued, “In an event that one of you doesn’t accept to go on this quest of the city, he forfeits even the five million dollars that I have so freely given to each one of you.”

“Great just great, I always knew our father was not alright. I always knew it.” Michael said anger in his voice, before the lawyer could say anything he continued, “How are we supposed to start this? Did he leave any clue aside from that phrase?”

“As a matter of fact he did."

Carefully going through the contents of the envelope he took out four cards and gave them to each one.

Veronica looked at the card that was given to her and examined it. She could see there was a number and a letter.

“But how is 6 and E supposed to be helpful?” she asked.

“To be honest with you guys I don’t know. Your father left me this and hoped that you guys would figure it out. Good luck on your quest, your time starts now. All the best.”
Without saying anything they all stood up at once and left the office.
