Alola! The Starting Island, The Starting Pokémon!

Izzy and Sylveon are in the middle of enjoying their vacation in the Alola region, riding on a Sharpedo. They speed across and under the water, seeing many wild Water-type Pokémon, including a Pyukumuku that greets them with a friendly peace sign. After running out of air, they both resurface, but are immediately face-to-face with a wild Bruxish, which surprises Izzy and causes her to fall into the water. Izzy is relieved to have made it back to the surface, but is soon laughing along with a girl and her Gothita who saw amusement in her reaction. Izzy is asked by a woman in charge of the Pokémon Jet Ski if she enjoyed it, and she is relieved when she tells her it was fun, thanking the Sharpedo. On the beach, a fennekin is relaxing on the sand, washing itself, only to notice Izzy and Sylveon racing in its direction. Failing to see the fennekin, Izzy steps on fennekin's tail, annoying it as it hits her with Ember before leaving.

At the hotel, Lauren is relaxing with Aromy, drinking some Pinap Juice. Izzy returns to them and tells Lauren everything she and Sylveon did, which makes Lauren happy to know they had fun. She says they have Aromy to thank for winning them their Alola vacation. Izzy remembers them winning, leaving her Pokémon with Professor Wall, and flying to the Alola region. Lauren tells them that they should get going, which confuses Izzy until she reminds her that Professor Wall asked them to deliver an Egg to his cousin in Alola.

Izzy and Lauren take a Pokémon Taxi and learn about Ride Pokémon from the driver. Izzy remembers the Sharpedo she used earlier and figures out it was a Water Ride Pokémon. Izzy then asks Lauren where they are taking the egg, to which Lauren tells her they're taking it to a place called the Pokémon Academy. Aromy then notices some Berries, informing Lauren and they all stop off to take a look. Lauren and Aromy are occupied with the berries, so Izzy decides to look around and finds a Pokémon with its head sticking out from a hole. Izzy crouches down, wondering what its name is, but it gets angry and pinches Izzy's  nose. After shaking it off, Izzy and Sylveon, wanting to catch the Pokémon, give chase as it escapes underground through the town. Lauren turns to show Izzy the Berries, but notices she has disappeared.

Still chasing after the Pokémon, another strange Pokémon darts from tree to tree behind them. After chasing the Pokémon deep into the forest, Izzy and Sylveon finally reach the hole in the ground, but find that it is empty. Suddenly, a Sitrus Berry falls from the sky. Looking up to the sky, Izzy wonders where they are and where they were supposed to take the Pokémon egg. The mysterious Pokémon throws another berry down, but it hits something in the bushes. Izzy and Sylveon look around the forest and suddenly hear a noise. They continue hearing the noise until they see the Pokémon responsible for the noise emerge from the bushes and see it waving at them. It is large and friendly and Izzy starts to wave back, calling it cute and approaching it, but her opinion changes immediately once she sees it effortlessly smashing down various tall trees in joy. As the Pokémon then approaches them for a hug, Izzy and Sylveon rush off in the opposite direction, but it begins to chase after them, coming close to catching them until it is distracted by the mysterious Pokémon from earlier. Izzy and Sylveon, after escaping the rampaging Pokémon, spot a giant Pidgeot in the air and decide to follow it. Emerging from the forest, Izzy and Sylveon arrive at an area with a huge building. Izzy spots a girl next to some new Pokémon, so she jumps over the fence and heads towards them, but the girl warns Izzy to look out as, unknowingly to Izzy, various Tauros being ridden by Trainers head straight for him, but before she can get out of the way, they all crash into him. One Trainer orders her Tauros to stop, but it is too late as Izzy has been trampled by the Tauros. The girl rushes over to Izzy to ask how she is, to which Izzy tells her that she is used to Tauros as she has caught some before. As one of the Tauros approaches Izzy and the girl, only for the latter to back off in fear. It is revealed by a boy that Sun is scared of Pokémon and can't touch them. After recognizing the girl who was using telekinesis earlier, Izzy is informed that she is at the Academy and is shown around.

As Izzy and Uma are looking around the school, Izzy is brought to the principal's office, being mistaken as a new student, but as Izzy tries to clear things up, she sees her mother and meets the school's principal, Drew Wall, Professor Wall's cousin. The meeting leaves Izzy stunned as she learns of Drews's habit of making jokes using Pokémon names. Inside the office, Izzy clears things up with Uma as Drew calls Professor Wall to tell him he has received the egg safely, to which he thanks Lauren. Uma asks Drew if she can show Izzy around the campus and shows Izzy to the classroom first. Izzy is introduced to the class teacher, Professor Seqouia, who welcomes them happily. Izzy then hears a roar from outside as she sees a group of strange people gathering.

A boy and his Pidgeot are approached by a group of people. Izzy learns that they're part of a group known as Team Skull, who bully people into battling them. Calvin makes a deal that the boy can leave if he wins their battle, but if he loses, they will get his Pidgeot and send out their Pokémon, Patrat, Larvesta, and Murkrow to begin their battle, ordering him to tell Pidgeot to fight. Just then, Izzy steps in to confront the group, telling them how unfair the battle is and joins the battle himself, introducing herself to the boy, who introduces himself as Saburo, but tells Izzy he doesn't need any help. As Izzy sends in Sylveon, Saburo sends out his Kangashkan, and reveals that it is a Normal type, and also a trusted friend of his. The members of Team Skull command their Pokémon to use Venoshock, Bite, and Leech Life respectively, but Sylveon successfully dodges the Venoshock with Quick Attack, as Saburo comments on Sylveon's speed. The Patrat and Murkrow bite down on Kangashkan's skin, them to be attacked by Kangashkan's Rough Skin. Calvin's Larvesta is ordered to use Flame Burst, but Izzy tells Sylveon to dodge and use Fairy Wind, which connects with the three Larvesta, which impresses the students, as well as the mysterious Pokémon watching from a tree. Saburo tells Izzy to leave the rest to him as he powers up his Kangashkan using a crystal on his wrist, which allows his Kangashkan to use a move known as Breakneck Blitz, which is strong enough to defeat the villain's Pokémon at once, causing them to retreat. Izzy asks Saburo what he just did, but Professor Sequoia steps in to explain that they're known as Z-Moves, which are moves passed down in Alola after completing the island challenge on the four islands of Alola. Izzy gets excited by all the things she has just learned, but suddenly sees a flying Pokémon, and once describing it to the group, they identify the Pokémon as Tapu Koko, the guardian of Melemele Island.

Later that night, Izzy, Lauren, Sylveon, and Aromy are enjoying a meal at a restaurant. Lauren comments on the food, but Izzy is thinking about everything that had happened earlier, which is noticed by Lauren as she asks her if there was anything that happened to distract her. Izzy then hears a noise echoing and recognizes the Pokémon in a tree, leaving the restaurant and immediately chasing after it. Searching around, she encounters it again, following and meeting it at a viewing point where she remembers it as Tapu Koko receives an object that she recognizes as what Saburo was wearing. After approval from Tapu Koko, Izzy puts the object on her wrist before watching Tapu Koko fly off away from her. Izzy then stares at the Z-Ring.

The next day, Izzy is at Professor Sequoia's house talking to Lauren, who is back in Lumiouse City, over the video phone. Izzy then remembers that she starts her first day of Pokémon Academy today and hurries off after saying goodbye to Lauren. As Izzy races up the road with Sylveon, the two of them look out to the ocean before they both have a race to the Pokémon Academy campus.
