"If there are no more questions , this class session is over, have a nice day students. "The lecturer's voice echoed through the lecture speakers. I quickly took to my heels , I had only one class for the day and I was now heading to my best friend's apartment. Yes , I had one , a male actually . That was a whole story on it's own and oh boy did I learn some lessons. It was my very first encounter with what seemed like companionship at that time in a lonely boarding facility , I did what i thought would keep me safe - I fell in love too fast and did the dumbest thing of convincing myself we had something special , to be honest , the dummy wasn't giving me much to work with but like I said , I was falling and it was a thrill. I have no idea why I followed the signs I did. For one -the first sign, a glaring one, was his entanglement with someone from another school, a connection that had lost its spark. Yet, there I stood, tirelessly striving to earn his acknowledgment. But that didn't make it stop then , I guess the turning point arrived when he cast a shadow over my self-worth. In a moment of vulnerability, he compared me to a girl I had never met, dissecting our differences with his circle of friends. I was so embarrassed when the news got to me but I knew , It was a silent proclamation of three undeniable truths:
1.He didn't value me.
2. The emotions I harbored weren't reciprocated.
3. He wasn't worth it.
Since then, an unexpected bond has persisted, but it became clear - it was friendship, not the love I had once envisioned.
"KayB " He opened the door of his hostel room as soon as I knocked. A wide smirk on his face , he quickly pulled me in for a hug. Oh my ! The old me would have been in 7th haven by now.
"Get off me Jerry , I'm exhausted." I shrugged him off and found my way to his sofa.
"Good!" He screamed.
"Let me guess , you've got groceries?" I sighed , he always had groceries waiting on me every time I paid a visit with the hope of me cooking up a meal or two. Such a sly fellow.
"Yes , Miss Wills." He winked.
I stand up and make my way to the kitchen ,He follows.
"Don't . Take . Another . Step "I give him a death stare.
"I just wanted to help." He pouted his lips . I gazed at them , they where still beautiful , too bad.
"Right , You almost burnt us alive the last time you tried. " I slammed the kitchen door.
I heard him cackle.
I came back from the kitchen an hour later with two plates of spaghetti and my own invented green pepper sauce with little chopped meats. He almost pounced on me in attempt to grab his food. I smiled at him as he ate with much enthusiasm .
" Oh KayB , I was beginning to worry about you sleeping off in there." He had already consumed half of his meal.
"I actually made some stew and soup for you.. it's stocked in the fridge." I said before drinking a bottle of water. He blew a kiss , I rolled my eyes.
"Did anyone tell you how amazing you are." He grinned.
"...." No one had . He didn't seem to notice my silence. He suddenly cleared his throat after moments of silence.
" Spill it already Jerry"
" Well , I don't know how you are going to take this but ....I think I finally found her.." He placed his empty plate on a stool close by .
"Who , we both know wonder woman is occupied" I laughed knowing he always admired that Marvel character.
" ...Kayla , I'm finally in love with someone else. " He stared at me.
I immediately choked on my food. He rushed to the kitchen to get me a bottle of water since I had consumed mine." ....Hurray " I whispered the first ironic word that came to mind.
