“Once upon a dream, there was a girl. A confused girl. Although she controlled this dream, she was confused. The settings changed. Warm happy scenes, turned to dense melancholy then to grey, erasing all evidence that there was something there.

The girl was bewildered. Her eyebrows pressed together, a clear sign of… confusion. “Why are you so confused?” A voice boomed from what seemed nowhere, but everywhere. The girl, startled, jumped a bit at the sudden presence. Her eyebrows pressed more. “Who are you?” the confused girl asked. Her voice practically dripped with curiosity and apprehension. “I don’t know who am I?” asked the voice. The girl’s eyes gleamed with curiosity, somehow her wariness was gone.

Seeming to gain knowledge of her situation the settings of the dream began to calm, it was no longer an epileptic conundrum of flashing scenes, all contradicting themselves. The girl sat on an appearing trunk of one of the giant evergreen trees that began to sprout around her. She looked over the scene coming to life around her. Wherever she looked, something began to change. White turned to green lush, what seemed like sunlight began to drizzle its way to her face. Her face brightened by this light.

The girl began to smile at her creations. She pursed her lips, “You are…. A tame, mountain lion” she said. A glob of white appeared before her. The girl jumped a little at the sudden appearance. The glob began to take shape, right before her eyes. Feline features began appearing, golden fur began to sprout. Soon a beautiful, beast was standing mere inches across from her. “This form, its unfamiliar to me” explained the mountain lion. The girl’s eyebrows furrowed. “Show me what is familiar then” the girl said smiling. “If it is what you wish” said the lion as he began to change.

The girl watched, bewildered. The beautiful beast in front of her was no longer. It had changed from golden fur to long fur as black as obsidian.  The girl began to back away from the changing form. Frightened she looked on, unable to keep her eyes away. The setting subconsciously changed, sprouting greens turned to charred bark, and drizzling sunlight was no longer. A mist began to appear. “This is what is familiar” A humanoid growl whispered.

There before the girl, stood a magnificent beast, A body as big and as strong as a car, fur like obsidian, teeth like husk and eyes so red they seemed to see through the girl’s body and right to her soul, Analyzing everything, that made her.

A girl sat straight up. Hands clutched in to her bedding, Skin gleaming with sweat, her hazel eyes wide, and her breathing short.

        “A dream….”
