Chapter 1 A Shocking Discovery

Chavez's POV: the day started out normal as usual John and I were in town getting some supplies for the ranch my dog Jenna was with us she fallows me around everywhere I go she's pretty protective of me I was standing near John's store while Jenna was walking around town there was an old ragged barn on the edge of  Lincoln I noticed Jenna going towards it I chuckled softly and shook my head I knew Jenna wasn't going to find much in that old ragged barn but on that day that day was going to change my life forever I was leaning against the post that held the store to keep it from collapsing when I heard Jenna barking about something I looked over at her wondering what she was wanting

"Jenna what's the matter? "what's wrong girl? I asked worriedly

She continued to bark and spun around a couple of times but I still couldn't figure out what she was wanting

"You want me to fallow you is that what you're wanting? "are you trying to show me something? I asked

As soon as I said that she took off running towards the barn I sighed softly and shook my head following Jenna to that old ragged barn I knew we weren't going to find anything but I was dead wrong when I walked in I heard a sound that sounded all too familiar to me it sounded like a baby crying and sure enough there he was lying in a little basket he had a white baby blanket wrapped around him he was crying and moving his little body around when he saw me he stopped crying and looked at me I noticed that there was a note

(The note read:
Dear whoever finds this spoiled brat please take this child off my hands he is nothing to me his mother died and left him with me but I'm not interested in raising this spoiled brat he's not even my child my advice is take him to an orphanage you're be better off doing that I wish you good luck in raising this spoiled rotten little brat

I couldn't believe what I just read this man supposedly abandons this small incident child calling him names I was furious about it so I decided to take him and raise him myself I gently picked him up and held him in my arms he looked up at me with those big blue incident eyes he was all alone and all scared I did my best to comfort him I walked out of the barn and went to find John I found him near buggy that we came into town on when he saw what I was holding he was shocked

Jose where heavens name did you find this young child? John asked

Jenna and I found him in that old ragged barn on the edge of Lincoln there was a note with him as well whoever this William Antrim was he just abandoned him for no good reason I guess his mother died as well he's got nobody John I want to raise him myself I said

Why Jose are you sure you want to raise this child? John asked

I'm positive John he needs me look at him please John he needs someone who can look after him at least until he's old enough to take care himself please John I don't want to send him to an orphanage I heard terrible stories about that place I begged

John thought about it for a moment then decided to let take care of little one who I learned was William but I decided to call him Chivato

Well alright Jose if you think you can handle it then go ahead John said

Thank you John I replied

We climbed into the buggy and rode home I held Chivato on my lap he was a little crabby he was rubbing his eyes and everything else I did my best to calm him soon we arrived at the ranch when we arrived Doc and Richard came out to greet us I got off the buggy while holding Chivato in my arms just before we arrived he had just fallen asleep

Glad you guys are back Chavez Richard said

Thanks Richard I said trying to adjust Chivato's position in my arms

What do you got in your arms Chavez? Doc asked curiously

Is that a kid Chavez? Richard asked

Yea Richard he's a little baby I found him today well actually Jenna found him and she lead me to him he was all alone and scared he needed me his mother died and whoever the man was abandoned him I asked John if I could raise him and he said he was okay with it I told them

Doc and Richard looked at each other surprised that I was willing to raise a child

Chavez are you sure you want to raise this kid? Richard asked

I'm positive Richard look at him he needs me I answered

Yeah but Chavez do you think you can handle it I mean raising a child is a big responsibility and I'm not sure if you're ready for that Doc said

Guys come on you're looking at a guy who has helped his mother raise three daughters I know what I'm doing I can handle it I can raise a child I told them

It took awhile to convince everyone that I can handle taking care of Chivato but after awhile they finally agreed to let me raise him later that night we had dinner I had fed Jenna and had dinner then I bottle fed Chivato he couldn't eat solid food yet so I had to feed him with a bottle John had kept an old crib that he kept in case any of us ever fathered a child I put the crib in my bedroom so I could keep an eye on little Chivato soon it was bedtime I laid little Chivato down in the crib gently placing the blanket over his tiny body I kissed him goodnight and he laughed and smiled I smiled softly at him then he slowly drifted off to sleep

Goodnight Chivato have a good night sleep I whispered then I went to bed myself
