Hazel is a sweet and wonderful boy. Born into a poor family, he grew up in poverty until the very early age of 9, in which both his parents were killed in an explosion in a factory they both worked at. Thrust into the hands of CPS (Child Protective Services) since he had no other family he landed in the arms of the West Village Orphanage where he would spend the rest of his years until he turned 18. He struggled in the orphanage at the beginning since he was new and try to grow accustomed to not having a family. He would stay up most nights crying at the loss of his parents and spend most days avoiding the other orphans and nuns at the orphanage. Until, he slowly started to adjust to life at the orphanage and began to come out of his shell.
While Hazel was growing up at the orphanage he learned many skills from the nuns such as cleaning and hygiene from Sister Maria. He would learn amazing cooking skills and how to make the most delicious meals plus the best baked sweets from Sister Anna. The most important skills of all he learned compassion, kindness, love, and patience. He would learn these from his favorite Sister of all Sister Carrie. She would always talk to him whenever he felt sad or when he needed guidance whenever he felt lost. He was always questioning her, he would ask her 'why be so kind to people if they might not be kind back?'. She would always chuckle and reply to him saying 'being a kind person doesn't mean you get to be unkind or impolite to the world because it might or might not be kind to you.'
At the age of 15 he was given the ability to go out into the city and see some of the sights he had never seen, since he was never allowed to stray far from the Orphanage. While exploring the sights and the wonders of the city he came across a music store. He was always curious about music since he would hear some over the old dusty radio they had back at the orphanage, but unless jumbled music with a bunch of radio static was your jam then you never really listened much. He walked in to the store and politely and shyly asked how things worked in the music store. After the nice man showed him how he could sample the music by putting the album into the album player and press play on the song he wanted to hear, Hazel was excited to hear crystal clear music for the first time.
Hazel would later return to the music store to tryout the music he had been dying to hear now that he new how to work the machines. He walked around the store browsing the isles before picking an album that caught his attention, giddy at the fact that these were the first songs he would be able to properly hear. The album had a beautiful woman on the front while half of her appearance seemed to be covered by a piano and the words next to her read "The Dairy of Alicia Keys". He place the album into the machine and was deciding which song he wanted to listen, and since he was a sucker for romance he picked the one that caught his attention the most. He pressed play on a song called "If I ain't got You" and listened to the amazing vocals and wonderful instrumentals after that he fell in love with music.
After discovering his love for music he would later discover his love for singing. He would sing to himself and never in the company of others, but one night at the orphanage a little girl who was having trouble sleeping due to the frequent nightmares she was having. He felt bad for the girl since when he was younger he also had the same problem. After Sister Carrie read her a bedtime story she was still too scared to fall asleep. That's when Hazel offered to sing her a lullaby, she agreed and he started to sing one of the more gentler songs he had always listened to. After the song the little girl was fast asleep and Sister Carrie plus Sister Maria were speechless by Hazel's beautiful singing voice. They would always later encourage him to show his wonderful voice to the world.
