Chapter 3 The Beginning

My doorbell began to ring over and over again causing me to roll out of bed and run down the stairs. My hair was matted and I probably looked like I was dead or something. I ran swiftly through the hallway rubbing my eyes before reaching the stairs. I lost my footing and then ran into the wall at the bottom of the stairs and rubbed my arm from my clumsiness and the little jolt of pain it gave me. As though I wasn't already sore from 5:30 AM swim practice.

But a smile spread across my face seeing his curly headed grin through the glass on the door. I opened the door and there stood Harry. A smirk across his face as he saw me in my short swim shorts and my tank top along with my messy chlorine hair. But he didn't seem to really care.

" Early Practice this morning?" He asked inviting himself in my house. I looked at the clock across the living room and saw it was three o clock. I let out a little gasp.

I put my hand over my mouth in shock.

" Oh my gosh, I forgot about our fun day today!" I said feeling guilty.

He flipped his curly hair around as he plopped down on the couch closing his eyes.

" I understand you've been busy...If you want we can reschedule."

"Give me fifteen minutes." I said before he could even consider reschduling our amazing fun weekend we had every month.

He smiled before no matter how sore I was I sprinted upstairs to get ready.

Harry's P.O.V

As Emmy ran up the stairs to her room I let out a long sigh.

The thoughts about this past summer ran through my head. The thoughts of not knowing what to do just made me even more nervous around her.

I sat upright on the couch before getting up. I looked at the photo on the wall of Emmy and her parents.

She looked happy, And that's when they were all together. Now with her dad living in America and her mum still here things became difficult in her family.

I grinned looking at the other picture on the wall of her in front of this house as a little kid. I remember the day she moved here, her curly hair was in pig tails and I thought she talked funny because she was from America where her mum and dad met. I walked over into the kitchen were I found her swim bag lying on the counter. The bag looked like it weighed more than she did. I shook my head in amazement, How in the world were people crazy enough to get up at 5:30 to practice swimming.

My stomach rumbbled so I walked over to the fridge figuring Emmy was probably going to be hungry also, one because her mom isn't home or her sister and she probably just came home after practice and whipped out. I started to cook some bacon in a frying pan as the yummy scent filled the kitchen. I took the remote then flipped on the TV before seeing advertisement for the X factor singing show and turning it off quickly. I paused for a minute closing my eyes and thinking.

Over the summer I applied for the X Factor audition.

No one knew I could sing and I planned on keeping it that way. Emmy has been my best friend for a long time, and she didn't even know about my hidden talent. The truth was singing is something I enjoyed doing and thought maybe I could pursue it as a career.

I was planning on telling her over the summer because the auditions are in two months. Then I saw how busy and stressed she had been and put it off. I was inurupted in my thoughts by the smell of something burning.....and Smoke.

I came out of my deep thoughts realizing the bacon was practically on fire. Before I could move my hand away the flames had already hit my wrist.I let out a scream and poured water on the flaming bacon before I heard shuffling upstairs the footsteps running down the stairs. Emmy ran across the floor in her slippers and her robe.

" Oh my gosh Harry!! Are you okay!" She screamed seeing that I put out the fire but was holding my wrist.

I looked down dumbfounded at the searing pain on my wrist and slightly embarassed for her to see me acting like a fool. She ran over to me not caring her bare legs were showing slightly out from her robe. I stared at her for a few seconds before responding.

" Y-Yeah....I was just trying to make some food....and I got distracted." I blushed.

Emmy let out giggle before grabbing my arm and starting to examine my wrist. She pulled me down the hallway and up to her room.

"Sit." She said in a commanding tone.

I sat down on her bed and looked around to see the inspiring quotes all over her wall.

She walked back out with a kit that was filled with ointment and bandages. I smiled at her caring ways....They made me feel...good?

She opened up the case keeling down beside me and biting her bottom lip reading the labels carefully to find which one to use.

She put her finger up to her mouth but I blurted out what I was thinking anyway.

"You had a hard time didn't you..." I whispered still looking at the motovation swim quotes about not giving up and many other inspring saying on the walls. She looked up at me confused before I saw the scar on her arm starting to peak out of her loosened robe.

"What do you mean." She pulled up the robe knowing that I had seen the noticable scar.

I looked right into her eyes seeing her every emotion. He eyes were dark and slightly glazed trying not to show her emotions to me....But what can I say, I know how she thinks.

" After your surgery?" I said obviously.

She looked away from me quick looking like she wanted to hide because she froze in thought, She focused on my burned wrist and thats when I knew she would end up changing the subject like she always did.

"Everybody goes through things, You just have to choose if you want them to be difficult or easy." She said positively jumping up as she noticed me staring at her bare leg. But the look on her face showed pain....I knew there was more to the story but I felt as though she wasn't ready to talk about it.

I nodded before she sat the bandage down on the burn.

I sighed at the thought of me being her best friend and still not knowing what happened to her this past year. She never talked about it but I could see the pain she went through every day just by the little things.

I smiled as she smiled back at me and I rested my hand on hers.

"I'm here if you need me." I whispered. She nodded understanding.

"I'm fine." She said reassuringly.

"I'll be ready in fifteen minutes. Do you think you will be alright on your own for that long."? She laughed before I pinched the side of her face with a grin. She swatted away my hand before getting up and going back into her walk in closet shutting the door. I looked around her room as my eyes landed on quote that made me start to grin and feel guilty at the same time.

" Forget All the Reasons why it won't work, and think of the one reason why it will."

If only I could think that same way the quote says to. Maybe I would be able to tell her how much I love her.
