Shiro was sitting playfully on Sora's lap. She gazed up at his calm, kind, beautiful fire eyes which from up close you could almost see the flames burning. She and Sora had been living in Elchea for around four months since they first arrived, they both really like it here.
"You up for a game?" Sora asked. It was a talent of Soras to be able to ask in such a tone where it was practically impossible to say no.
"Yeah..." Shiro replied in her usual cute voice, resulting in a grin to spread across her brothers face.
"How about a game of chess?" Sora asked.
Shiro thought it was weird for her brother to challenge her to a game of chess since she was probably the best chess player in the world. She had never lost a game and it was pretty much impossible to beat her.
"Okay," she agreed.
Sora knew he wouldn't be able to beat Shiro. He had tried a number of times before and after a while he gave up after one too many humiliating defeats. Sora wanted Shiro to win, he wanted to see that smile spread across her face when she moved that final piece to result in check-mate. There was a joy, a feeling of love and admiration when he saw his sister win a game.
Though Shiro and Sora were siblings, they weren't biologically related. Shiro and been adopted by Sora's family when she was three and although they were six years apart in age, Shiro's maturity level balanced out with Sora's juvenile personality.
Shiro set up the chessboard, placing each piece down carefully with her delicate, gentle hands. Sora let Shiro pick white, trying to impress her. Shiro picked up her first piece and just as she was about to place it down, Steph entered the room. Shiro had always been jealous of Steph, she had things she didn't have... She was jealous at how Sora looked at her, almost hungrily, as if she was the most beautiful thing in the world.
"You guys playing chess?" Steph asked innocently.
"Yeah..." Sora said.
Shiro had never seen Sora shut down Steph like this before. He had never seen him just completely ignore her without even glancing at her appearance.
"Okay... well I'll leave you guys to it," Steph said, clearly getting the message.
The game carried on for another two hours. Shiro was up a queen and two bishops, It was clear who was going to win. Though Shiro was about to make an unexpected move, a stupid move, she sacrificed her queen. Sora knew Shiro better than this. She would never make a move like this, she was throwing the game.
