Walking onto the crowded sidewalk outside John F. Kennedy International Airport, Declan looked around for an empty cab to hail. Despite the blistering cold, he happily took a deep inhale, reveling in the sting in his throat. This past excursion to Ireland had been too long of a separation from New York; while he did enjoy visiting his home country, nothing could really compare his true home. However, such trips came along with the job description of Pack Beta. He had taken his phone out of his pocket to call an uber when he heard an annoyed sigh from behind him, along with an annoying feminine voice.

"So, I'm guessing you live in Queens, right? I just moved into this one neighborhood..." Lorcan, Declan's best friend and Alpha, had been hounded for the past ten hours by some woman's chatter, and the Beta was beginning to wonder how much longer the man would last. He had originally been polite and distant, trying to end the conversation, but this woman was relentless. By now, she was carrying on a one-sided conversation, apparently unfazed by his lack of response or participation. The entire spectacle had been an amusing distraction throughout the long flight, but Declan was ready to come home. Running a hand through his dark curls, he watched as their driver popped up on the app and began to wait.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

The Gamma's face appeared on his phone, prompting Declan to answer.

"Kanan, we just landed." A happy sigh came before the response.

"Great. I can't wait for you two to come back. It's been rough playing Alpha for the past two months...I'm guessing you're heading back soon, right?" Taking a look at his friend, he chuckled.

"Hopefully, yes. Lorcan might be a bit preoccupied..." A deep voice appeared in his head.

Fuck you, Declan.

The voice over the mind-link betrayed anger and annoyance, yet it didn't faze him.

Aw, come on, Lorcan. It's funny.

As he was about to announce their eventual departure when he heard another voice in his head, a desperate one.

Declan! I don't know if you've landed yet, or whether you can hear me, but I need your help!

His younger brother's voice sounded panicked, and every nerve in Declan's body went stiff. He immediately turned to his friend to alert him of the urgency, but the man was exhibiting a similar stance.

A tall man of 6'5, Lorcan was a man with a formidable presence, already capable of rendering any human intimidated. With sharp green eyes, he only really expressed annoyance and understanding, leaving only his close confidants knowing his true demeanor. At the moment, he was clad in a black ensemble that meshed with his pitch black hair, the picture perfect display of a New York bachelor. However, his eyes were filled with an unfamiliar emotion, and his body had stiffened harshly. Declan struggled to convey his worry when another deep voice entered his mind, one of a commanding nature.

My mate is with Aleksander. She's in danger.

Then, without another word, he turned and dashed towards the sidewalk of the airport, pushing any passerby in his way. Confused, Declan followed, ignoring the incoming ride and their luggage. Thankfully, it was all items that were easily replaceable, but his lack of understanding grew. Lorcan hadn't found a mate yet, a feat almost unheard of for a twenty-nine year old wolf. Of course, he hadn't found one either, but he was in no rush.

"Hey, what's going on?" Kanon was still on the phone. By now, having past the end of the airport and reaching the city, Lorcan continued his pursuit, ignoring any walking pedestrians. Declan spoke hurried apologies as he followed. As he began to respond, Lorcan's voice came onto the mind-link, but judging by the echo in his head, he could determine this was an Alpha command.
