Author's note: I know people have been curious ever since that incident in Snowdin during Cage of Bones. What did Grillbz mean by "not again"? It's a story I've wanted to tell because of the important messages behind it, but it's not at all a happy story. I know Angst has been present in a lot of my work, but I HIGHLY recommend you take the trigger warning seriously with this story. It's very important. Otherwise, I hope you have a safe time reading and that this sheds some more light on how deep Grillbz and Sans' relationship goes. Because these two...have been through some SERIOUS shit.
Also, while it may seem like Grillbz and Sans don't have the right reactions to the situation present...they're reactions that make the most sense for them and it'll become clear as you read.
Also something to note. In the timeline, Grillbz and Sans are 20 at the time of Gaster's recent death.
And if y'all are wondering where Papyrus is in all this, he'd be around 12 at this point and just went through a horrifically traumatic event. He's likely out cold somewhere in the Skilton household and is none the wiser about what's been going on.
:TRIGGER WARNING: Hardcore angst and references/examples of depression, self deprecating talk/jokes, uncensored language, self hatred, a mental breakdown, a form of dissociation as a means to cope, mental disorder diagnosis, a detailed suicide note, and a (failed) suicide attempt will be present in this story. I will NOT be sugarcoating anything going on. It's going to get REALLY heavy and DEADLY serious REAL fast. If you feel that you will not have a safe time reading this, then do whatever you need to do to be okay and please tread with caution.

Grillbz will never be able to tell what compelled him to go out that night...
...but he will never stop being grateful for it.
Everything had started so smoothly. His father was taking a business trip to the Capitol and Fiyoku was spending the night with her grandmothers; leaving him with the entire house to himself for the evening. All this time for him to be alone and find solace within his thoughts.
Just what he needed after these past few months.
Grillbz couldn't help but inhale deeply at the thought.
The death of Gaster was still fresh in everyone's minds...and Grillbz had been checking in everyday to make sure the Skilton brothers were coping alright.
Papyrus wasn't completely emotionally stable yet, but still able to truck through and do productive things despite this new weight on his soul after a month or so of grieving...
...but Sans had completely shut down.
There were times Sans wouldn't even get out of bed unless someone forced him to. Ever since the funeral all he would do was mope around the house, occasionally trek to Grillby's to drink until he passed out, or fall asleep anywhere and everywhere.
Grillbz knew Sans was putting on a smile whenever he showed up to check on him. Just to keep him from worrying. However miraculously...that only made Grillbz's concern rise even more.
Grillbz thought he had nearly forgotten what Sans' voice truly SOUNDED like for awhile; the skeleton unable to say anything above a whisper for several weeks. When Sans was finally able to speak at all, Grillbz could've wept for joy he was so relieved.
But that didn't make his worries go away any faster.
Instead they got replaced with more panic; less about the brothers as a unit and more about Sans as a whole.
