Lily sits there, completely bored out of her mind. She is twirling her thumbs, not realizing how it annoys me. I feel like smacking her! "Geez, Lily, do you have to be that annoying?" I yell at her.
Maybe that's not the smartest move. She is a sensitive Suzie.
What I don't understand is why she always goes on blind dates? It never works out. The guys are sometimes complete losers, broke, arrogant jerks or just perverted freaks.
"Oh little miss perfect Angela! Not all of us have the word 'ANGEL' in our names," she sneers nastily.
I scoff. "If that's how you feel Lily, I'll leave you alone!"
I stand up and back my bag, getting ready to leave.
She immediately softens. "You know I didn't mean it like that! It's just that I'm nervous. I think he could be the one."
I roll my eyes, but decide to stay. I can't leave her alone to meet strangers, even if it is in public. I sit and rest my handbag on my lap.
"Look Lily, don't get snappy with me, I really don't appreciate it, because you know I don't approve of blind dates. They're disasters!"
She nods meekly. "Sorry," she mumbles.
I shake my head at her. I can't be mad at her for more than a few minutes. She makes me feel guilty with just one look. I always feel like I've kicked a puppy after that look.
"So when's the mystery guy coming?" I ask to get my mind away from things.
She shrugs and looks at her watch before answering. "He should have been here ten minutes ago."
Internally, I sigh. "Do I need to recycle my speech about my intense dislike for blind dates?"
She rolls her eyes at me. "No need to."
"Five minutes before I leave," I told her.
She nodded.
Seven minutes later I stand up and nearly bump into a heartbreakingly gorgeous man. Well, not a man exactly, he still looks young, like he left school a year or two ago.
"I'm sorry," I mutter.
"No problem," he says with a kind smile. He has dark green eyes, midnight black hair and a killer smile.
"I have to go," I said getting a little tongue-tied staring at this Adonis.
"Me too," he chuckled nervously.
"Ange, don't leave yet, please," begged Lily. "He might just come now, like any second."
"Lily! Don't! I'm going," I hissed softly.
"I don't mean to be rude, but are you Lily Browne?" the man asked.
"Uhhh...yes? Why?" she answered nervously.
"Hi, I'm Taylor Smith. AKA Mister_Smith09 ? I'm your blind date."
He held out his hand for her to shake it.
I can't believe it. She has got a hot guy for a blind date. But how? These guys are usually creeps, so is he one too? Or will he be different? And why can't I stop staring?
I blinked and noticed they were sitting; I was forgotten. I turned to leave feeling sad and hurt. Why?
"Hey! Hey! Where do you think you're going?" asked a voice I barely knew, but would know anywhere.
I looked back and noticed Taylor looking and speaking to me. My mouth hang agape. I shut it and replied airily, "Oh, I no longer need to be here. She's met you and I only stay so long. She knows that."
He frowned. Why?
"Yes, but I don't know you," he said in a way that confused me.
"Lily knows all about me. Ask her. On second thoughts, don't. You came here for a date with her. Not to fish about a friend you never knew existed."
I walked away quickly, before he could get a word in, but not before I looked at Lily's face. She had a look of amusement and a glint of mischief in her eyes.
What was she thinking?
I scolded myself internally. Why do I care what she is thinking? I tried to shut off my thoughts. It was focusing on some green-eyed, dark haired guy. I couldn't have it that way. He was there for my friend, not me. So why was I still thinking of him? I can't do that to her. She deserves some happiness. Not that I have a boyfriend or anything. I didn't want one.
Right?
No, I don't, I finally decided. They're only trouble. They're just a headache.
A couple of minutes later I was home. I sighed, took of my shoes and crashed on my bed. My head was too much on that guy. Taylor.
Taylor Smith.
What was so special about him? Why is my thoughts so much with him? What intrigued me so badly?
His smile?
A slight dimple in his left cheek?
His straight teeth that shows when he smiles?
Or that silky looking black hair, that I want to run my fingers through?
I shook my head. I can't do that. I can't be thinking of my friend's potential boyfriend.
It was just after nine that night when my cellphone rang. I glanced at the number. It wasn't one I recognized.
"Hello?"
"Uhh, hi. Is this Angela?" a masculine voice asked. It wasn't someone I recognized.
"Yes, may I ask who I'm speaking to?" I asked warily.
"That's rude of me. Sorry, I'm Taylor Smith. I bumped into you earlier this evening. Remember?" he asked.
Yes, Taylor. How could I not remember him? He has been in my thoughts since I saw him.
"Yes. How'd you get my number?"
"Lily gave it. She said things wouldn't work out between she and I. She told me to see maybe if you wouldn't like to go out with me. So I thought I'd try...would you like to?" he asked nervously.
What the hell was she thinking? Was that why she was grinning like a mad cat? Why is she trying to set me up? I don't need a boyfriend.
"Sure, why not?" I heard myself say before I could stop it. This was against what I thought I just said.
"Cool." He gave me the details and place and time to meet. I agreed and cut the call.
