I'm back in what I can now call my room, with nothing to do for the rest of my free day. Avalon and Chloe are nowhere in sight and Leila still isn't back from Brent's house.

I see Isabelle taking out dance wear for another stretching session, and so I decide that I should get some stretching done as well.

"Want company?", I ask.

"And why would I want your company to slow my training?", she asks bitterly.

"I was just gonna stretch so I wanted to know if you wanted to stretch together. Plus, I wouldn't slow down your training in any way."

"Look, I don't know you, and I don't want to know you. I'm new here and I have a lot of work to do. I don't need any brats holding me back!"

I don't say anything to that, I just sit on my bed, take up my iPod and pop in my earphones. Just who does Isabelle, think she is? I try to be friendly and this is what I get!

I lay down and feel my phone vibrate from under my pillow. I totally forgot about it all day. I take it up and see I have a few messages. I open Dad's message first.

Dad: How's my little River Dancer liking her new school?

River: I love it so far and the people are really nice, well except for one of my roommates who seems to hate people in general. I miss you. Hope you'll come visit soon.

I open Caroline's message next.

Carrie: Hey Riv. Glad you like your new school. The twins and I miss you so much and your dad is here trying to act like he's too manly to miss you but I know he'll text you soon cause he misses you.
XOXO Carrie.

I smile and then move on to the other messages I have. I especially leave them for last since I know that they're from my worried mother.

Mom: Good night sweetie. I'm so happy that you love Winter so much. Don't forget to stretch before you dance and call if you need anything. I love you baby girl.

Mom: Good morning my angel. You're probably still asleep but I know you have a free day so use that time to relax because who knows when you'll have another free day.

Mom: I know it's your first day away from home all alone and you must be scared, don't forget that I'm here for you. Please call me when you see this.

Mom: River Avery Daniels! I'm still waiting for a call.

Mom: Now I'm really worried about you, is something wrong?

I see ten missed calls from her and notice her last call was a few minutes ago. I know I'll have to call her now or she'll probably call the school or worse, the police, because she's probably thinking something bad happened to me.

"River?", mom answers the phone.

"Yes mom?"

"Why were you ignoring me? You had me worried sick about you! I was just about to call the school to find out if something happened to you!"

"Mom, you need to calm down. I went for breakfast with one of my roommates and then we went shopping. I forgot my phone here."

"Oh. Well you need to check your phone every morning when you wake up, and in the night before bed. And please keep it on you for my sake. You're my only child and I don't want to lose you."

"I'm sorry Mom. I'll keep it on me as much as possible."

"Thanks darling."

"I love you Mom."

"I love you too, River."

I hang up and sit up on my bed and start glaring around the room. I see Isabelle working on her splits. I'm tempted to give her advice as to how to get her oversplits much better, but then I remember our earlier encounter.

The door opens and Avalon and Chloe come strolling in.

"Hey Riv", Chloe says.

"Where have you been all day?", Avalon asks.

"I went for breakfast then shopping with Leila."

They both have disappointed looks on their faces.

"I thought we warned you about her?", Avalon says, taking a seat on my bed.

"She's not the best person to hangout with", Chloe adds, joining Avalon and I on the bed.

"She seems really cool to me."

"Well that's because you don't know her. She's always nice at first then she's like the devil. She'll change pretty soon. You'll see", Avalon finishes.

"As much as I want to protect you from Leila, I think you're just gonna have to find out on your own which will be pretty soon", Chloe adds, putting a hand on my shoulder.

I don't know what to say, so I stay quiet.

"How about we go out to eat later for dinner, and you can tell us about your day?"

"Sure Avalon. Well if it's okay with Chloe."

"Of course it is."
