[Inspired by the song "Oh, Ms Believer"]
[Sal's POV]
I was setting out for a journey to find the dragon that was said the bring good fortune. Recently my wife, Ashely, had fallen ill and I hope that this dragon can help bring her back to good health. If not then I will slay it so I can get money to care for my wife. I was also wondering if after she got well that we might be able to try and have a child. Maybe the dragon can help with that as well?
I had sent a letter to my brother to meet me at town square later that day and tell him that I need him and his wife to watch over Ashely. They agreed and decided that one would stay with her during the day and one would stay at night. Ashley begged for me to just let her die and for me to move on, but I didn't want to lose her. There is no other woman in the land like her, and I know it is causing her to suffer but I want to stay with her.
I had set out with little food and water, but I was resourceful so I could live off of the environment. My horse and I have been traveling nonstop for the past four days. There was just no place safe for us; monsters were everywhere you turned. Finally we made it to a cave within the west side of the country.
I dismounted and started gathering things for a fire and started hunting.
I had killed a hog along the tree line of the nearest forest and took it to a nearby river to clean it.
I skinned it and took the meat back to the cave. My horse was nowhere to be seen, I had just assumed that she has ran off to the nearby meadow the graze.
I set up for the night and started cooking and cutting up the meat, some for now others for later.I had eaten my fill and fell asleep on a nearby rock in the cave.
I had a dream of living with another woman, she was beautiful, she had the power to bring good fortune to those who searched for her. She birthed me two sons and two daughters, we lived as a happy family then the dream started turning into a nightmare. A dragon swallowed the woman and then my children. The dragon slowly stalked towards me and opened its mouth.
I snapped awake only to be blinded by the sun. I noticed my armor had been taken off and my horse was resting by the wall of the cave. That, I found, was the least of my worries.
A dragon surrounded me, curled up and asleep. I slowly got up but my heel dug into the dragons tail on accident.
It's head jerked up and noticed me immediately. It didn't attack but instead got up and walked towards the entrance of the cave.
The scales glimmered like gold and there were crystals and ornaments on its horns, ears, tail, and around its ankles.I found myself staring at the majestic beast in front of me it let out a long and concentrated roar towards the countryside as if to say "The day has begun!"
What amazed me was that after it roared the countryside seemed to wake up. The birds started tweeting and the rustle of the wind blowing gently through the trees leaves echoed.
The dragon turned and looked at me before a bright glow blinded me again. I shielded my eyes then began to uncover them to see a beautiful young woman. She almost looked like the woman from my dream. She walked towards me before bowing and presenting herself.
"I am [Name], the one of the four dragons protecting this world. You've come forth for good fortune for your wife have you not?"
I bowed and nodded. Her face gloomed with sadness. I had thought she was going to tell me that she had died but that was not true. What she told me was something more sinister that would change the way I view the world.
"Shortly after you rode out of your town, your brothers wife had tied your wife up and threw her in a chest. Your brother burned your wife alive in the chest and buried her remains in your backyard. Later your city was attacked and burned to the ground, nothing remains."
I broke down in tears and fell to my knees. My wife, the reason I'm out here, is dead and gone murdered by my own brother and his wife. For what?!
"Your father awaits for your return home...."
She reached her hand out for me, I hesitantly took it and stood beside her. She walked over to the perfectly laid out armor and the armor changed before my eyes. Gold, solid gold with ruby and diamond trimming. There was also a gold chain-mail shirt and leggings. She looked towards me and bowed.
"I give you my blessings young knight, good fortune awaits for you. We will begin our journey back to the great city NockFalls as soon as you are ready."
I felt very honored at the fact that [Name] was willing to travel with me. A question hit me that made me subconsciously ask.
"What about my horse?"
She stood up and looked over at the chestnut steed that huffed and grunted in boredom. She smiled and looked forwards me.
"I can fly over you and watch from above, and if anything happens than I will grab your horse and fly up to safety."
The plan seemed easy enough, but I was concerned on if her wings would get cramped from flying so slowly. I dismissed the thought and mounted my steed before heading out.
[Name] took to the edge and turned into a dragon, roaring over the countryside letting all that heard know that she would take flight today.
