For this Thursday's game I was finally wearing Toby's jersey. I knew he had been waiting to see me in it ever since he gave it to me, so I couldn't wait to see his reaction when I walked into school this morning. Hopefully he would be surprised, but I would be content as long as he was happy. I was even planning on going like this to his game later tonight, hopefully he wouldn't get too distracted with me in the stands.
One thing was for sure though, he was right about his jersey being bigger than the boys. It wasn't all that much wider thankfully, but was a lot longer. It fell right above my knee around mid thigh and looked more like a dress on me than an oversized T. Since this was his spare, I couldn't alter it to fit better but there was no way I was going to let him buy a smaller one for me. So because he loved the tutu so much the last time, I tucked the jersey into a black one with dance shorts underneath to try and hide the extra length. It looked pretty good, and unless you were looking real hard, you couldn't really notice the bump from the bunched up fabric underneath all the tulle.
Since things were starting to progress beyond more than "just friends" between us, I felt like I should do more than usual. With the boys, getting all done up was more out of brotherly love but with Toby it felt different... it felt like more. We weren't dating but we were most likely headed in that direction, so why not have fun with it. So I went all out and decorated my face by putting his jersey number in maroon paint and white glitter on my cheeks and did my hair half up with ribbons running through my pony. I was happy with how I looked, even if it seemed a little over the top.
The first thing I did when I got to school that morning was look for Toby. I found him at his locker grabbing his books for first period. The metal door was covering his face but I could see the bottom half of his jersey so I knew it was him. The great thing was with his view obstructed, he couldn't see me sneak up on him. So I quietly padded over and waited quietly behind the door, hoping that he wouldn't see my white high top converse if he happened looked down. When he finally closed the locker, he didn't really see me but then he looked over right before he started to walk away. The initial surprise quickly turned into an elated beam.
"Holy shit! You're wearing my jersey!" He exclaimed, reaching out and scooping me up into a massive hug that swept me off my feet. I squealed and clutched at his shirt to keep from falling, though with how tightly he was hugging me I doubt he would let me fall.
"You look so much hotter in it than I do," He complimented, smiling widely as he slowly put me down.
"I doubt that," I laughed, still clinging to his shirt. I quickly let go with an apologetic smile; his shirt was crinkled from where my fingers had gripped them. Unconsciously, I reached out to smooth it down.
His eyes ran up and down my outfit, "Trust me Red, you look like a dream."
"Well, you don't look so bad yourself Toby James," was all I could muster up as a response. His stare was doing funny things to my ability to create a creative comeback. It wasn't much but it was better than turning into a blubbering mess.
