Y/n's POV
I came home with the gem apples. "They look so shiny!" I squealed. "You like shiny things?" Meta Knight looked at me confusingly. "Eheheh... well not really. It's just these apples are new to me. We don't have one in my kingdom." I smiled. "Although have you ever heard of it?" Meta Knight looked at me sternly. "Uhmm... no. This is my first time. Why do you ask?" I looked at him. He looked away in a serious face. “Do you trust him?” he suddenly asked. “Uhm... no. I just met him, after all.” I respond. “I suggest to not get close to that man, anytime soon.” he then walks away. “Huh?? Why?” I chased after him.
“You don't know who he is. He may be kind to make those free, but don't you find it strange?” he said. “Well... Dedede may have informed about our arrival-”
“But Kirby knows nothing of your arrival.” “But he may as well be sleeping! He told me of his hobbies.” I countered. “You've talked to him?” “Yes! Yesterday...” I looked away. Meta Knight sighs. “Well, he is far from than a mere shopkeeper. He's a wizard of another dimension.” he informs. “Where did you get this information?” I asked. “We've been there before. Me, Kirby, Dedede and his loyal guardian, Bandana Waddle Dee went there to defeat the supposed villain but that traitorous wizard revealed his schemes.” he gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. Perhaps those memories are too irritating to remember. “And that wizard happens to be the shopkeeper?” “Precisely.” he said.
“But he doesn't look anything like a wizard.” I said. “The clothes he wore don't look anything like our custom Dreamland clothes. You can tell, don't you?” “How?! I've only been here for 2 days!” I yelled. He became silent and sighed. “You'll finally realize this someday.” he walks away. I can't believe the man I thought would be the one is being like this. Why is he distrusting that shopkeeper and compare him with a different man? It can be anyone! I definitely need to calm down...“Who would've thought a pretty young princess would be visiting us?” a male voice spoke. I turned around and saw a tall man with lavender hair, wearing a jester hat, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. “And who might you be?” I asked. “How rude of me for not introducing myself to a woman that is significantly eye-catching. I'm Marx, royal jester. Pleased to make your acquaintance.” he bows. “So am I interesting because of my appearance and social status?” I scoffed. “Aha, that's where you're wrong, darling.” he teased. “Then what would it be?” I said. “Hmm... honestly, I don't know you very well. You just seem interesting.” he shrugged. Seriously? “Are you suggesting we should get along?” I was clearly unimpressed by his attempts. “Why not? I can show you around if you'd like.” he smiled. “No thanks. I'm pretty capable myself.” I turned around and walked away. “Aren't you a human though?” he pointed out. “Well... yeah. But does it matter?” I answered. “It does. And roaming around the castle without anyone guarding you will leave you pretty vulnurable.” he said, approaching me. “So you're telling me you're capable of fighting?” I chuckled. “Now, now. Even though I probably got a lower status than you or that knight, I still have abilities.” he said.
“And I was thinking of offering myself to guard you.” he hugged me from behind. Oh now he's asking for it.
“Personal space, you idiot!” I slapped him. He knocked back a little. “Oww...” he groaned. I looked away and literally walked away this time. But it wasn't a very comfortable walk around. I literally can tell he's following me around. But when I turned around, he's just not there anymore.
“What's buzzing you, Y/n?” Kirby asked. We're currently eating together in the garden...
“There's this jester who's been following me.” I sighed, annoyed. “Ohh.. Marx. Yeah he can be a weirdo around others. But I think he's just having a hard time making friends with them, poyo.” he said. “How can you be sure?” I replied. “What did he do to you? Bet he flirted with you, right?” he asked as he eats. “Yeah.. how can you guess?”
“I've known him for a while. He was about to take over Pop Star just because he's hungry.” he laughed. What...?
“But I know he changed. And because of what he did in the past, nobody wants to be his friend and makes him socially awkward, especially when making friends. That's why he used weird methods. He's really trying, so please just forgive him and let him be your friend, for me, okay?” he explained as he handed me a cake while eating an apple. I was surprised, as I took the cake and began eating. I guess I shouldn't have been too rude until I realized the truth.
“Well, I'll be off. I promised Bandee to help him with his spear skills. See ya around, Y/n!” he waved and left.
“So you know, huh?” Marx's voice came from the tree we sat under. “What the? You were listening?!” I complained. “It can't be helped. I was curious to get to know you better. I mean, you're a foreigner to our place.” he said, staring to the field from the tree. He didn't try to stare at me. He was really thinking of what Kirby said. Or probably what I said before.
“So what Kirby said is true?” I asked, slightly concerned...
“You can say that. Kirby's my only friend, now. I did try to conquer Pop Star. I deceived everyone and thus lost their trust. It's my fault for being too mad for not getting food for a while.” he explained.
“And I was fortunate enough to retaliate my actions by becoming a royal jester of the castle. It's better than wondering around without food and getting mocked by the people of Dream Land. I feel protected by the eyes of the gang...” he said, legitimately genuine. He seems to be zoning off and speaking his mind. I started to feel pity for him, and slightly guilty over the things I did to him. “I see. I never truly understand it. I'm... sorry.” I lowered my head. It is not very lady-like of me. He then turned his head to look at me. “Why are you apologizing? It's certainly my fault, if anything.” he said. “Well, I didn't try to understand you and presumed the worst. It's an improper behaviour.” I explained further. “Nah, I don't think you're to blame. I could've tried a different approach, and things would've been different. No need, to apologize to a lowly jester like I am.” he keeps speaking from his mind.Suddenly, a large mysterious object flies towards me. Marx noticed and pushed me aside. He literally fell from the tree to save me. Then we saw a white cloak flying down from the castle walls. “That was close. Are you alright, Princess...?” he said, slightly concerned of his position. He hugged me from the side. Obviously he didn't want to make me feel uncomfortable like before. “I'm alright, thanks. My name is Y/n, by the way. You don't have to be so formal around me.” I smiled. He released me and sighs in relief. “See? Wandering alone isn't safe.” he crossed his arms behind his head. “Oh shut it...”
