"Over here." The coach of the Russian skater guided the camera crew into the ice rink, where loe and behold, revealed the young skater herself. The men immediately turned on their camera's, filming as Sophia attempted difficult combination jumps.
They zoomed in as she landed two double loops, which definitely took them by surprise. Two double loops were high on difficulty because of the amount of speed required and a proper landing, which was very common among women's figure skating.
They weren't simply there to watch her skate, they wanted a full interview before she would be going to her first event in the United States, where she would have her senior debut.
After landing the difficult combo, a triple axel and triple loop, the skater had finally noticed the several men holding cameras and microphones, who were eagerly waiting for her to approach them.
Curiously, she paused her practice session, gliding over to the side where she met with her coach. "Why did you let so many over?" She whispered. "Because it's time you stop hiding in the dark and say something to your fans. We all wanna know how you're feeling before you go to Skate America." She explained, to which Sophia sighed, but agreed.
Going over to the open door at the rink, she placed the guards over her blades, making her way to the interviewers. "Hello Sophia Moroshkin, would you mind if we gave you a quick interview? It'll be quick I promise." Judging by his accent, it was safe to assume he was German.
"Of course, go ahead." Putting on her best fake smile, she presented herself to the camera as they began rolling again, and started taking many pictures, with a speaker being held over their heads.
"So you're fifteen now correct?" He started. "Yes that's right." She answered. "And you were thirteen when you injured yourself I believe, can you specify exactly what happened and what your injury really was?"
So they wanted to talk about her injury, she wasn't surprised, it's not like she specified if it was actually her ankle that was hurt. Guess the public really wants to know.
"Well, at the Junior Grand Prix Final two years ago, I attempted to land a triple axel in my free program at the finals, which we all know I didn't land. I over rotated on my jump and had a bad landing, which ultimately ended in an injury." She explained, as they listened very attentively. "As I was brought to the back, they had a doctor look at what I had, and revealed I had a grade three sprain in my ankle from my landing, which caused a major tear in my ligament and a dislocated bone."
"Oh my, and how long was the healing process?" He asked. "The doctor said the healing process would be six to twelve weeks, and during that time, I was in and out of rehab for four months, then I went under surgery to reposition my bone correctly after the ligament fully healed. I actually still have the scar from the operation."
After revealing that she had a scar from her surgery, she kneeled down, untying the laces of her skate, and removing it to reveal the large straight line cut across the skin of her ankle.
The cameras zoomed in for a closer look.
The man continued with the questions as she was putting her skate back on.
"We're very pleased to see you up and lively again after that, which brings us to our next question." She stood back up, waiting for it to be said. "This will be your first competition since your injury, and as a senior. Does that fact make you nervous in any way, and if so, does it have to do with your injury or joining the senior division?"
The question definitely made her think, as the mic was held over her mouth as she went into deep thought.
"I think both. There is definitely anxiety for me since I'll be competing again after my injury, which was the whole reason why I didn't compete at last years Grand Prix, because I wasn't fully healed mentally. But I think I'm more excited than nervous, because I wanna show everyone that I didn't spend all this time goofing off, but working hard for my comeback."
