It was a normal Wednesday in my little village of Dariana. It was a summer day although it looked more like mid autumn, a result of an overcast sky and puddles the size of a small pond. Torrential rain. Typical for the locale and my current mood. Without university to occupy my days I was left with work, reading and binge watching telly. Luckily, today was my day off. I was currently curled in a ball, cloaked in a woolly blanket engrossed with the television. Sherlock was on. I had starting watching them again anticipating the New Years special that was due.
I live with my best friend in a flat near our university. The town is usually buzzing with students, but during the summer it is dead. Hence the Netflix session.
I couldn't stop thinking about that day. The day I met her. She knew things about me, things even the woman who birthed me did not know. I wish she had told me more but she was murdered before my very eyes. The murderer walked up to me, I was still like a mannequin.
"She just didn't know when to shut up. Stupid bitch, should've followed orders. You aren't ready yet.... But you will be, soon." He whispered in my ear, almost growling, far too close for comfort. And then he was gone. I knew I would see him again.
I shook my head, clearing my mind of all thoughts of that dark day, choosing to remember the good things that came to pass since. I got into university, I moved away from the road that poor girl drew her last breath. I met Dailah, my best friend and room mate. My life hasn't totally sucked since that day. There's the nightmares, nightmares that make no sense and shroud me in darkness for the entire next day. But those are becoming few and far between as of late. Really, I can't complain because today is a completely and utterly typical day. Until it wasn't.
