I feel a small hand patting my cheek. I wake up to find my sister standing over me.

"Ian, get up! We have to go soon!" Naomi, my little sister tells me. I grab my phone, pressing the home button once, making the screen lite up. 6:00 a.m.

"Naomi, we don't have to be up for another half an hour," I tell her. The eleven-year-old just puffs up her cheeks.

"Fine. But only one episode." I sigh, giving in. She hops over me, and presses her back against the wall, using her feet to push me out of bed.

I groan as I hit the floor.

“What was that for?” I complain.

"Ian get dressed! Let's go! Let's go!" The little girl chirps excitedly, ignoring me. I grab a clean outfit and pull it on, and I let the little girl drag me down the hall, and into the living room. Turning on the TV, I watch as Naomi plops down onto the couch. Shaking my head, I walk into the kitchen to start making our breakfast. I throw two breakfast burritos into the microwave and pull out stuff for sandwiches. I pull out Naomi's spiderman lunchbox, and start packing it. Fruit snacks, string cheese, and an apple juice box. I make a sandwich and throw it in there as well. I push the spiderman lunchbox aside, and start packing my own lunch. Two Sandwiches, fruit snacks, an apple, and a water bottle. I hand Naomi her breakfast burrito and a glass of milk.

"You have until the episode ends to finish your breakfast. When you're done put the glass in the sink, and then meet me in the bathroom. I'll be right back, in going to get myself ready for school." I tell the small girl. She nods, and stuffs her face full of burrito, her eyes still glued to the anime. I walk back upstairs to our shared room. Naomi has anxiety about being alone, so we share a bedroom. After gathering all my school books, simultaneously shoving them into my bag, as I walk into the bathroom and brush my teeth. Naomi stumbles into the bathroom. she wears her silky red hair, in a ponytail, with yellow bows on both sides, matching her dress and sandals. She scampers out of the bathroom, with me right behind her. She reaches the bottom of the stairs and squeals happily, her arms waving wildly.

"Hey, friends!!" She laughs. I see my three best friends, making themselves at home on our huge black leather couch.

"Hey, baby girl!" Leo, the flirtiest guy I know, holds out his arms, and Naomi comes running, jumping into the hug. Leo snuggles her happily, and I watch warmly.

"So today must be a yellow day." The darker-skinned boy smiles. Naomi nods.

"I picked it out myself." She tells him, importantly.

"Hey guys, make yourself at home I guess." I laugh. The peaceful moment only lasts for a moment. The front door opens. It's our father. Naomi shrinks into Leo's arms, who instantly hugged her, protecting her instinctively. The room darkens with tension. I scowl. The tall, cold man struts up to me, completely ignoring my friends.

"Make sure your home tonight, we have guests." He snarls.

"No," I grunt.

"What do you mean 'no'?" He snaps.

"Oh, I don't know, let's see," I count down on my fingers,

"Naomi has that dance recital today. And there is a parent-teacher meeting today, but you won't go to ANY of those, even though you signed her up for them. I am going to take her. So, no, i definitely won’t be here," I tell him, cold and sarcastic.

My father seems to finally notice my friends, who are glaring daggers at my father.

"I'll make you your dinner, but Naomi and I will not be there," I say finally, crossing my arms, and leaning against the wall.
