Being Immortal sucks. By immortal I don't mean that Magey life extension bullshit either, I mean unconditional till the end of time you will exist bullshit. Now you are probably asking yourself" Well why does it suck? It sounds all hells a kind of awesome." And I say to you, shut up and stop asking questions and I'll tell you. It sucks because I was born a normal mortal human. I have the mental capacity and the emotional frame of a human. When you live for hundreds of centuries though your head will quickly fill up, you get heart broken over and over because everyone around you will eventually die while you stay the same.
It would be maddening if the Mages hadn't come up with a solution.(Still hate the fuckers). In our world gems and riches are everywhere, you grow them like rice. They found a way to store pretty much any intangible human thing that happens in our mind, and store it in a gem. The once worthless materials suddenly become priceless when they are full. However it doesn't copy whatever you are storing, it takes it out of you and stores it, you want to make sure you never forget an important moment? Store it, but if you were to try and remember the moment all you would see is a blank white space. That precious memory is now completely gone from your head and tucked "safely" away into your medium of choice. But now it's in the physical world, it's vulnerable in ways it could have never been before, because now people( especially certain dashing and super awesome Rouges) can steals the object you stored it in. People pay good money for this, an inventor who can't come up with anymore ideas could take the essence of Leonardo Da Vinci himself and suddenly have the minds of one of histories greatest inventors in his head. It's of course highly illegal to buy/steal these sorts of items and is punishable by death. If you want to listen I'll tell you my story.
