She showed up at midnight. I opened my door and all the air left my lungs. To say I was suprised would be an understatement. I hadn't heard from her in quite a while. Several months to be more exact. The last time I saw her, I was on my knees sobbing as she walked out the door.

"Take a ride with me." She asked in the most polite way she knew how, as if nothing ever happened.

It was a simple request really, but when it came to her nothing was as simple as it sounded. She spoke the words softly, almost like a lullaby. I was powerless, I couldn't say no even if I wanted to. I hated the way she pretended that she didn't leave me crying myself to sleep every night.

I followed her out and raised an eyebrow as she opened the passenger side door of a black Ferrari. It was strange. The car was flashy and excessive, which was something that she was not. It was so unlike her. But maybe that in itself was the problem. I think that she sometimes got so caught up in being what everyone else wanted her to be, she lost herself. The sad part about all of this is the fact that maybe I never took the time to actually see her. Maybe she had been like this all along and I just never noticed.

As we drove down the Pacific Coast Highway, I could feel my heart hammering in my chest and the alarms going off in my head. I was nervous and I had no idea what to expect. She was always so unpredictable. She was dressed casually in a plain white, v-neck t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans. Her long brown hair was pushed back out of her face and despite the fact it was night time, she was wearing a pair Ray Bans.

I reached over and pulled the sunglasses off her face. I wanted to see her eyes. Her eyes told a story that only I would understand and I needed to see what they said. There were only two ways this was going to go, we were either going to crash and burn or shine brighter than the sun. There was no in between for us. It was all or nothing.

She glanced at me and I felt my heart flutter. She had that James Dean, daydream look in her eyes. That kind of intense dark brooding stare that shook you to your core. There wasn't really anything I could do when she looked at me like that. She'd already won the battle and as far as I knew, it hadn't even started yet. I was overmatched and it was very unfair.

The longer we drove the more familiar everything became. I knew exactly where she was taking me, the part I couldn't figure out was why? What had changed? Why now? I wanted to ask her a million questions, but I was too afraid to break whatever fragile truce we currently had. It was an unspoken surrender. Time would tell if it was permanent.

We pulled into the driveway and she turned off the engine. Without a word, she got out of the car and walked toward the house. I followed her inside as I felt my nerves starting to set in. I still had no idea what she wanted. She walked through the house and didn't bother turning on any of the lights. She took off her jacket and tossed it on the end of one of the sofas. I noticed a fire burning in the fireplace. Whatever was happening right now, it was pre-planned.

She opened up the back doors and let the cool ocean air in. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. This house held so many memories. It looked exactly the same as it did two years ago. I was suprised that she still had it to be honest. It's purpose had been long forgotten. Except for tonight.

This was our house. She bought it after she left rehab. It was the only place she could escape from it all. She hated LA, so she found us a place on a beach in San Diego. It was our very own peice of heaven.

"You kept it." I said softly as I looked around.

It was in immaculate condition. All the pillows, throws and candles I'd used to decorate were still right where they were when I left. It was a bright airy house with an open floor plan. There was a very Mediterranean flair in the way I'd decorated it.
