The City Home to Heroes

Calmly, the city moved about. A grey sky high above. A cool breeze on the wind, whisking by the stony buildings of Otal, the capital of Kono. People rushed about the city in their own hurry. Kids playing games of tags. Shopkeepers restocking their supplies. New Guild recruits leaving the city for their first mission. It was all another normal day in Otal.

Running along the street sprinted a tall wolf Drydt, full bags in hand, rushing toward the city orphanage. It was the only orphanage in the city, full of kids of all ages. Baby, tottlers, teens. If you needed a home, this place could be your home. And one day, someone might come and give you a new home. But for now, the orphanage was a well built place they could stay. Made of stone and wood, thick wooden ceilings and spacious rooms, with a large grassy yard in the back. A rarity in the capital, yet used for a home for many.

In the yard, the children ran around, playing tag, kicking a ball, and a few swinging sticks around like they were Guild members. Out of all of them, one stood out. An older kangaroo drydt. He had a dim silver fur, his chest, brow, and inside his ears were a cream. His eyes, two different colours. The right red, the left green. Under his right eye, a small scar, aged but revealing. On his left arm, right below his shoulder, a larger scar, caused by a past event, leaving the huge mark behind.

He had dark brown boots on his large feet. Tucked into them, his light baggy pants that are easy to move in. His belt a simple cloth one, dyed black with a light buckle. Hanging over the belt, a green tank top. Easy to move in yet foolish to wear during this cold time of the year. On top of his top, he had a black jacket. It was ripped up. The sleeves were removed. The symbol of a crescent move over a sun with three pink petals falling in front ripped.

"Shino!" Called the wolf drydt that rushed through the city before, bags in hand. The wolf drydt towered over the kids, standing at six foot four. His fur was grey, yet had an oddity on his body. Part of his right side, and all of his right arm was light grey fur, almost white. His eyes were a light green, almost if you mixed a light blue with a dark green. His jacket, black with a white fluffy trim around the neck, sleeves, and bottom, hiding a green shirt, just like the one Shino has, except the wolf's was slightly more worn. Below that was a pair of brown pants, going over his black boots. On his left leg a pouch, its contents unknown to everyone around.

Shino rose, getting close to matching the wolf's height of six four with his six two height. He would have been taller if not for the ears not counted in the height rule the kingdom has.

"What do you want Wolfric?" Shino asked with a sleepy tone.

"We're going to go practice." Wolfric told Shino with a smile.

"Let us watch!" Yelled one of the kids holding a stick.

"Yeah Wolfo! Let us watch!" The other kid yelled. Soon they were followed by all the kids saying to let them watch. Wolfric laughed while Shino gave an eye roll.

"Care to practice in front of the kids?" Wolfric asked Shino, taunting him.

"If you want to embarrass yourself in front of them." Shino replied cockily with a smirk. Wolfric tossed the bags down by the door to the orphanage. He opened the longest one and pulled out two blunt blades. Both black, handle designed to be used with one or two hands. He tossed one to Shino while the kids went to the tree to watch.

The two Drydts placed themselves a few feet away from each other. Wolfric held the blade in his right hand, lowering his body a small amount, his left hand up, having Shino between his thumb and fingers. Shino fixed his poster, lining his back to be an even step slope. His blade held in both hands in front. The grins across both of their faces left slowly with the breeze blowing by. A leaf came free from the tree above with it, slowly floating to the ground... And then, just at the moment the leaf touched the grass, the two darted forward.
