Betty's POV:
Betty was on her way to work, she had a job at a small, quaint coffee shop. Although, she was hoping to find something that suited her interest in journalism but refused to work with her mother at the Riverdale Register.
She hurried along the street to get there, which was just on the border of the Northside and the Southside. The closest bus stop happened to be on the South, two blocks from the shop and her co-workers always told her to be aware around there and so she did.
She knew how dangerous the people located on the Southside were, last night's event proved this, but whenever she'd ask her mom about them, she would get ignored and told not to ask such absurd questions. Knowing it was a sensitive topic to her mom she never decided to push it, especially considering because of the type of person Alice is.

Betty finally arrived and found her co-workers already getting ready for the place to open. Kevin, who pretty much knew everyone and everything about Riverdale was always an endless source of information and Ethel, who was an unusually type of nice yet quiet and reserved girl who judged from afar.
"Hey Betty." Ethel said as she leaned against the coffee counter whilst turning her head to look over. "Hi Ethel." Betty replied with a smile as she went to put her bag down. "How are you today?"
"Oh, I'm good." She stated whilst glancing at the floor. Betty tied her apron, getting ready to start for the day.

The first hour of work went relatively slow and Betty rested against the counter and stared out the window. She was beginning to wonder how the owner managed to keep all three of them employed. The only time the coffee shop was busy was around lunch or dinner. Well, that is if one could call about 20 customers busy.
"Why are there three people working here when it is empty half the time?" Betty asked Kevin who was sitting in one of the chairs with his feet up on the table. "To be honest, I'm not too sure, safety reasons, I guess." He told her as he scrolled through his phone.
"Well, can the owner afford to pay us? This place makes no money." She said with a frown. "Well, Ethel and I have been waiting for the day this place shuts down for almost a year now. We have the same concerns and I'm sure that day will come sooner rather than later." He replied with a shrug. "Yeah, but that's sad. Maybe we should do something about it. Tell everyone we know to come here for their coffee or something." She suggested causing Kevin to agree absentmindedly as he was to fixated on his phone screen.

Betty's fingers trailed along the bracelet and she thought about how it had been on his wrist, laying against his skin and now it was on hers. She didn't know why she felt it was so intimate. The man was rude and had tried to intimidate her but at the same time, was making sure she was okay. She didn't know what to make of it.
"What the fuck?" Kevin exclaimed, swinging his legs off the table and standing up. Ethel stopped making a coffee, then looked at him in confusion and Betty jumped back startled.
"What's wrong with you?" She snapped in annoyance as Kevin grabbed her arm, lifted it and stared at the bracelet she was wearing. "Where the hell did you get that?" He asked, incredulous. Ethel hurried over, looking at her wrist. "You have a serpent bracelet?" She gasped, seeming just as shocked as Kevin.
Betty pulled her arm away and wrapped her hand around the piece. "What's a serpent bracelet?" She asked, confused. "How the hell do you not know what a serpent bracelet is? You're wearing one." Kevin said with laughter in his voice.
