Friday Barnes- Once Again

Chapter 1- Arrived

Dr Barnes ran as she entered the airport, her muddy brown hair flying out like a halo behind her. She was going to be late. As she dodged through the crowds, one hand on her head to stop her green pork-pie hat flying away, she saw the board with the flights and departures on it out of the corner of her eye. She immediately found the flight she was looking for.

Italy.

As she saw the blinking status of the flight, she willed herself to go faster still. This was the most exhaustive athletic endeavour that she had done since her PE teacher had forced her to do 100 burpees a day for a month because she didn't want to wear a fitness tracker in Year 7.

She had grown a lot since then, and now, as a 17-year-old with a PHD, she was one of the greatest minds the world had ever seen.

As she skidded into Gate 3, she shifted from foot to foot as people began to pour out of the doors. She was waiting for someone. The last people filtered out of the doors and her face fell. She sat in a chair, face in hands. Four years she had waited for this day. Four years and he hadn't even bothered to show up. It was either that or she just didn't recognise him. The thought of that horrified her. As a first boyfriend, she wanted him to stay just the way he was. There could be a slim chance that he didn't recognise her, but that was almost impossible as she was still wearing her signature brown cardigans, jeans and the irreplaceable hat that she had owned since Year 7.

"Friday?"

Great, she thought. Now I am going mad. Not many people had used her real name since her boyfriend had left, except for, of course, her best friend Melanie. May of the boys had grown to use her last name, so she had insisted that they at least call her Dr Barnes.

"Hey, long time no see!"

It was then that Friday looked up. Her enormous brain was kicked into overdrive as she processed the sight, because right before her stood a Greek god.
