I don't know why I'm doing this , what's the point ? It's not who I am . Jack thought as he stood up from his chair and faced the group of people in front of him. "My name is Jack and I have clinical depression." "Hi Jack , welcome to support group 101 ."

"So Jack , tell us a bit how things are in Jack's world , what are you feeling , what's going through your mind ?" "Nothing ." Jack replies stoically . "Now now Jack we won't make any progress if we don't share with the group ." Said Dr Samson . "I can't do this ." Jack says aloud but mostly to himself as he stands up to leave . " I thought this would help but clearly not ."

As Jack walked out the building into the cold New York night , a realization suddenly hit him like a bus. I'm going to get hit by a bus .he thought to himself . This is as good a day as any to die , so why not now ?
As Jack awaited the bus to arrive he mauled the idea over in his mind . Then he saw it , the bright lights he had been waiting for , the city bus , he heard the honking of the bus as he stepped into the road. He closed his eyes and awaited his fate , the brakes on the bus were screeching as the driver tried to stop , and then Jack felt it , the impact from the side , as though he had been tackled . Then he realized , it's because he had been , by a mysterious stranger , now laying on top of him , their faces so close he could smell the strawberry scented shampoo in her hair , he could see the sparkle of concern , or anger in her eyes .

Oh crap , her lips are moving , I think she's talking to me .

"Hey dude ! What were you thinking ? That bus could have killed you , you have to watch where you're going!" She said half yelling .

That was the whole point , he thought to himself .

"Sorry , I was a bit pre occupied" Jack said clearly not paying her any noteworthy attention.
She was staring at him curiously as they both got up.

"My name is..." but she never gets a chance to say , as a cab honks at them to get out of the road
"Get a room you two !" The driver of the cab shouts angrily .

"Buz off loser !"she shouted at the drivervas they stepped onto the sidewalk. "Sorry about that , are you okay ?" She asked turning to Jack .

I haven't been okay in a very very long time . "Yes , I'm fine thank you ."

"No you're not , you're bleeding ! Come on , my place is just around the corner then I'll fix you up ." She said , looking at the bloodstain on his pants across his left knee .

"I'm fine , really , I ..."
before Jack could finish his sentence he was being dragged by the hand towards What he assumed was Her apartment.

This is going to be a long day . Who does this woman think she is ? Bossing me around and taking me to her place , she doesn't even know me , I could be a serial killer for all she knows , or worse maybe she's one .

Before Jack's thoughts could run away with him they had arrived at her place , she invited him in and sat him down on the sofa.
"You're lucky it was just a scrape , you could have been seriously injured , maybe even dead ."

I wish I were ...

"There you go , all patched up ." She said as she got up from her knees , as she tried to take a step forward she fell onto Jack's lap , bringing their faces close yet again .

So close that Jack could see the sparkle of life in her emerald green eyes . A sparkle he was sure his had lost long ago .

"Sorry , I'm such a cluts today." She apologized as she stood up sheepishly. " Would you like some coffee or tea? Maybe a cold beverage?" She asked hesitantly .

"Thank you for the offer but I must respectfully decline ,I have some urgent business to attend to ." Jack said as he abruptly stood up and started towards the door . He opened it without any further word and left , without giving her a chance to ask his name , or to even ask hers in return .

That was strange , she's not a serial killer . She might just be , dare I say it , she might just be genuinely nice.

Jack dismissed the thought almost as soon as he had it , no one was ever just nice to him for no reason , everyone always wanted something.

But little did he know that this didn't happen by chance , bit that this serendipitous moment would change the course of events forever.
