I sat in my den Monday night, watching ‘Another Cinderella Story’, and listening to Three Reality. ‘Cause no one in the world could ever, ever, ever love you like I do.’ I sighed, the familiarity of their voices calming me, and filling me joy. I would love to meet these amazing people, I thought. If only the world was so kind. A beeping noise went above the music. My gaze went to the T.V., but that’s not where it was coming from. Beep beep beep beep. Somehow, I have heard the sound before. Oh, yeah Pretty Little Liars! It was the same sound of Aria’s phone. My phone, I thought. I looked down at the coffee table. Sure enough there was my phone, lighting up. The screen read, Sophia. My cousin was calling. I picked up my iPhone 4s and slid the bar to answer it.

“Hello.” I said into the phone.

“Hey, I told you I’d call you back.” Sophia said.

Yeah, I thought. Like four hours later.

“Yeah.” I replied.

“So, I was crunching some numbers, and I figured out how much it would be for a house.” She told me excitedly.

I straightened up a little, but rolled my eyes, smiling. My cousin was always trying to grow up really fast. She was only eighteen, but we have talked about how we were going to move in together when I was old enough. She went over all the numbers with me.

“How much is the tax deduction now?” She asked.

“I’m not completely sure.” I replied.

This was a lie, because I was not at all sure. It just wasn’t something a seventeen year old would know.

“Well we’d live in a complex anyway.” Sophia didn’t seem like she was talking to me, but more to herself.

“Huh?” I asked.

“You know? My friend, Lilly and I.” She replied like it was something I should’ve already known.

“Lilly?” I asked, confused.

Then Sophia replied, “Yeah, she’s one of my friends.”

“Oh, so you want to try to find a house for you and Lilly?” I asked, trying to hide the hurt in my voice.

We have talked about living together for so long, and she just throws it all away so she can live with Lilly? I was really confused; it was like she forgot all about our plans. It’s not like she had to wait long, I would move out at eighteen and a half. She still had the rest of school to get through and so did I. Lilly? I kept thinking about it.

“Carmen? You there?” Sophia’s voice came through the phone so innocently. Just as if she hadn’t realized the fact that she overlooked me in her moving plans.

It only hurt me because we were inseparable. We were more like best friends, or sisters then cousins. Now, there’s Lilly, taking my place after seventeen years.

“Yes, I’m still here, Soph.” I finally replied.

“Good.” Was all she said, then she went back to crunching numbers for her and I guess, Lilly’s house.

“So, did you forget about us living together?” I sort of blurted out.

“What?! Carm! How could I? No! I’m talking about where to live during college, sweetie!” She explained.

I didn’t like it when she called me ‘Carm’, but I was way more relived then mad. Also, I knew she couldn’t help but call me ‘sweetie’, because she has three younger siblings, and it’s a force of habit.

“Oh.” A feeling of relief came over me. “I’m sorry, Soph.”

“You’re fine! I can understand where you got confused.” She told me in her syrupy sweet voice. “So, how’s school?” She asked in an attempt to make conversation.
