Aspen's POV
"What's up my little soldiers?! It's your homie Aspen and I'm here today with my girl Brooklynn." I stared into the lens of my camera on the tripod. My best friend Brooklyn was seated next to me on my beanbag chair while I was on the floor of my room. Today I was making my celebratory video for finally reaching 6 millions subscribers on You Tube. Haha yay for me right?
Let me fill you in.
Hey, my name is Aspen Blake and I'm a total of 14 years and 19 days old. My birthday is December 10th. (I figured you might want to know) I live with my mom, dad, and two younger sisters Sadie and Addie. I have an Australian shepherd puppy named Monarch and I was born and raised in the good ol state of Virginia.
There you have it. My life in 10 seconds.
Wait. I suppose I should tell you a bit more...
I was a victim. Maybe that's why I have been so successful online. I'm relatable. I'm a story. One out of a thousand except mine was heard. A cry of help that was finally acknowledged. In my last year of elementary school (fifth grade) a group of girls would tease and gossip about me. I was crushed because I thought these girls were my friends. I had always been different but suddenly they decided to call attention to it. It was if a switch in their brain turned on and it said "I'm gonna cause this girl pain because I can."
For all that year as well as sixth and seventh I lived in fear. I sat alone at lunch every day. I walked a lonely trail home and had a miserable time inside and outside of school. My only friends were within my family.
The summer of eighth grade (this year) I thought it would all be the same the upcoming school year. Some old taunting, teasing, ridicule, and criticism. It hurts the worst when it's coming from the people you used to trust. A situation like this takes a toll on a young teen girl. I became depressed and quiet. Overcome with the fear of even going out in public. But that summer, something changed. That switch I was telling you about, turned off and suddenly, as if overnight, everybody was striving to be different. Everyone wanted to stand out. This my friends, is where people like us win. My life turned around for the better. This is the summer I met my best friend. Brooklyn.
Brooke moved to Virginia all the way from Boston when her dad got his job relocated. Brooke being a city girl, knew all the tips on how to be cool and hip. For some reason she took interest in me. She called me intriguing. Which in a way maybe I was.
Brooke and I became best friends fast. Doing everything together. All the time, every time. I started You Tube with her. We made crazy videos of us doing random crap. Stuff we have always wanted to do but were to busy living inside a bubble to dare to try. When we met eachother we were released from our inner cages and I finally escaped from the chains that held me down in fear.
A short 8 months later and here we are today. Celebrating my channels rise to 6 million. A whiplash of time that sped past me this last year.
I call my followers my little soldiers because in a way we really all are. It is a way to remind them that they have to stay strong. Because things will be okay in the end. If it's not okay. It's not the end. Simple as that.
"Today we are filming a best fried tag video, just like the first one we ever made!" Brooke said into the camera.
"That's right! I want to thank every one of you in person. Just for watching my videos and supporting me with everything. I owe y'all everything I have." I smiled genuinely into the lens of my new birthday present. My Nikon camera and tripod.
"Okay let's get this party started!!" Brooke did a little dance in front of the camera. I laughed at how immature she was.
I pulled up the tag questions on my phone and asked Brooke the first one.
"Okay Brooke. Tough one. Without looking at me, describe my appearance in 4 words"
Brooklynn laughed and turned around. "Okay.... Hmm... Tall, freckled, dirty blonde, and athletic."
I laughed. "Yes, it's true. I'm freckled!" I brought my face up real close to the camera.
Brooke laughed and looked at the next question on her iphone. "Alright, what's my favorite/most used app?"
"Oh I got this!" I waved my hands in the air. "Either your Etsy app or instagram."
"Come on Aspen! How did you know?!" She laughed and took a selfie of us to put on Instagram.
"Okay, Brooklyn. Who is my celebrity crush?" I asked her blushing a bit. She knew who he was...
"Oh my gosh it's hayes grier!" She stood up and shouted. Yeah, she obviously knew that one.
I blushed and laughed at her. Thank the lord that hayes doesn't watch our videos. I had only met him once at a charity event my good you tube friends Maddie and Hazel were hosting. I swear, those girls were some of the funniest on the site! Hayes was flawless. Utterly perfect. His muscular build and thick accent made me swoon over every word he said.
As I said before, thank lord hayes doesn't watch my videos. Or at least that's what I thought...✨✨
