"Well, I guess this is where I take my leave," Xander says after the three teens had retreated into the safety of the woods. "It's been nice knowing you guys."

"Are you sure?" Rose asks tentatively. "Where are you going to go?"

"I'm not sure yet," Xander replies with a shrug. "But I've always been travelling; I like the idea of it. Not knowing where I'm going to end up next. Besides, I'm a lone wolf."

"Or maybe people have just left so many times that you eventually get used to it," Logan whispers, loud  enough for only Xander to hear him. His head snaps up, his gaze meeting Logan's as he wondered how Logan could have possibly guessed that.

"Well," Xander says loudly, clapping his hands once he snapped out of his reverie. "Rose, good luck on finding your parents. I'll see you guys around."

And with that, he walked away from Rose and Logan, leaving them to stare at his retreating back and not quite sure on what to do next.

"Should we keep walking?" Logan asks Rose once they had lost sight of Xander.

"Yeah," she replies, her voice cracking. She clears her throat and says, "Yeah. Just in case they followed us and somehow catch up to us."

Rose starts walking, her hair swinging as Logan jogs up to her. "Are you okay? After what happened with your aunt, I mean."

"I'm fine," she replies curtly.

He holds out his arm, stopping her in his tracks. He takes her face in his hands, looking into her eyes. "What?" she snaps. "I said I'm fine."

"We'll get her back," he whispers, knowing that she was far from fine.

Her gaze softens and tears pool up into her eyes. "Do you know what it's like?" she whispers sadly, gently pushing his hands away. "To grow old with your husband, watching your grandkids play? And then you suddenly wake up to some psycho scientist telling you that your life was a total lie? Do you know what that feels like to find out that you've been taken away and your aunt sacrificed herself to that psycho just to guarantee your safety?"

He shakes his head, obviously not knowing how it felt.

"It feels like shit," she replies in a deadpan voice as a single tear slides down her cheek. "It feels like absolute shit." As soon as she started crying, she stopped, backing away and walking forward. Realizing that Logan wasn't following her, she stops in her tracks and turns to look at him. "Well? Are you coming or not?"

With a shake of his head and a sigh, he slowly walks towards her, muttering, "Women."

"I heard that!" she yells at him as she keeps walking ahead.

With a sigh, Logan sakes his head as a smile slowly spreads across his face. He breaks out into a jog to catch up to her, keeping up with her pace once he had. "So what's next, boss?"

"First, we should keep going until sundown. Along the way, we should try and scavenge for any food; we could run out of supplies at any moment, so I want to be prepared. Once it's night, we can set up camp," Rose says, going back to her old self.

Not having any other ideas, Logan just shrugs and agrees with her, although he wasn't sure how they were going to find food; he had no idea the difference between safe and poisonous berries and he had no idea how to hunt animals. But nevertheless, he just went along with it.

By the time the sun had set, the two were exhausted and were about to collapse once they had found an acceptable place to set down for the night. With drooping eyes and sluggish brains, it took Logan and Rose almost half an hour to set up the tent.

They both crawled into the sleeping bag, not even caring that they were so close to each other, and immediately fell asleep.

~*~*~*~

"Rose," a deep voice says into her ear. They place their hand on her shoulder and start violently shaking her, almost making her bite her tongue. "Rose, wake up."

"What?" she asks sleepily, sitting up and looking around wildly.

"I went out, just to observe the area; and well... They're close. So we need to get going," Logan replies, sliding the sleeping bag out from under her so he could put it back into her bag.

She crawls out of the tent, walking over and leaning against a tree, too tired to help Logan pack up.

"Thanks for all of your help, Rose," Logan says as he hands Rose her bag.

"No problem," she responds, shouldering her pack and forging on ahead.

After a couple of hours of walking, they finally emerge from the forest, standing at the top of a cliff. Below them, a vast city was spread out. the buildings looking small and the cars and people looking like ants from where they were standing.

"Finally!" Logan shouts. "Civilization!"

Overjoyed at the sight of other people who didn't want to kill them, they ran forward, taking in all of the sights as they walked throughout the city.

"Wow, I haven't seen a city for ages," Logan says, awestruck as he looks around. "Especially one as nice as this."

"I wonder if this is the city where my parents are..." Rose mutters. "Hold on, let me take out the file."

"Uh, Rose..." Logan says in an unnerved voice.

"Hold on, Logan," she responds as she rifles through her backpack.

"Rose, it's really important!" Logan argues, his eyes darting from her to something behind her.

"Not now, Logan!" she yells back at him.

"Put your hands up where we can see them!" a voice shouts from behind them.

I am really determined to finish this story by at least January 2013.

Oh, and the reason that these chapters are so short and things happen really fast is because they're like dreams; short and quick.
