Owwwww

I slowly opened my eyes feeling a burning sensation all over my body.

What happened?

I couldn't remember a thing. Last thing I remember is visiting my parents house to feed their fish then... nothing.

I open my bleary eyes a bit wider taking in my surroundings. I seem to have passed on in the kitchen, everything seemed as it should be.

I drag my sore body to a standing position and look around again. Nothing is out of place.

But one thing is noticable... the deathly silence. My parents live on a main road and never has that road even been quiet.

I walked down the hallway to the lounge and put on the TV for find answers. Something felt wrong but I didn't know what. I pressed the button flicking through the TV to be met with darkness and a high pitched screeching noice. Nothing.

I gave up and went to the front door. I put my hand on the handle slowly... a sense of trepidation filling me... something is not right... but what?

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

I spun around in shock. Through the back doors appeared to be a focused beam of light focusing in on a section of the floor in the kitchen. I watched as it slowly moved about the room. It was almost as though it was searching for something... or 'someone's I thought to myself as it aimlessly wondered.

Then it stopped.

I stood frozen in place unsure of what to make of what had just happened.

What is going on?

Beeeeeeeeeeep

Suddenly, the beam of light is in the lounge moving around the space next to the TV. It linger for a bit longer before finally reaching a patch of skin on my arm.

It sits there for a moment as I stare at it. Then all of a sudden the excruciating burning sensation began.

I screeched out in pain and move away from the beam of light but it followed. I ran back into the hallway and felt burning on my neck from the front door with windows. I race around the corner panting heavily in pain and race behind the kitchen counter.

I wait a second a look up from my hiding spot. The beam was coming in from the back doors in the kitchen. Wandering around the room in search of its next victims. Then finally, it stopped.

What was that?

Where are my family?

I started by calming door my breathing. Breathe in for five seconds... breathe out for five seconds.

When I felt calmer I looked at my arm... or what was left it the skin. My pale white skin was now red raw and bubbling.

I scrambled to the sink and then stopped... I was completely exposed. I raced around the room putting the blinds down above the sink and pulled the curtains across the back doors. No more light.

I ran back over the sink and put the cold water on. Working... thank God.

I gritted my teeth against the pain of the water and then covered in cling film and a bandage.

Gripping the sides of the sink I focused on my breathing.

What is going on? ... My phone!

I looked around the room trying to remember where I placed my phone.
Luckily I didn't have to look far as it has fallen on the floor near when I collapsed.

I bent down and picked it up.

From David:
Louise- are you ok? Something bad has happened. The military has piled everyone into vehicles and they are taking us to some underground bunker where we will be safe. I've got Sam with me... he's fine. Please please please be careful. Come to this adress ******************. I love you. Xxx

The last thing I remember is that my boyfriend David had been at work with our dog Sam, replacing some older ladies kitchen.

Tears met my eyes as I thought about my boyfriend and my dog being safe somewhere underground.

I wiped the last of my tears away and focused on darkening all of the room. My burnt arm tingled as a I thought about the situation repeating itself. I walked into all of the rooms closing curtains and blinds. Then I pinned up a blanket over the front door.

Now what?

I need to get out of here! I need to find David.

I went into my parents bedroom.

Empty.

Where could they be?

I finally decide to focus on survival. I couldn't help my family if I was dead. I grab my dads backpack from the top of the warbrode and went around the rooms picking up what I thought I would need, clothing, a first aid kit, food and water.

But how could I drive anywhere with that beam? Surely it would find me.

I looked around my parents room and grabbed a ski mask, sunglasses, a hat, gloves, scarf and a long trench coat. That beam would not be able to find even a sliver of exposed skin on me!

I walk over the the front door, my hand lingering on the handle.

I still didnt have any idea about what is going on.

I could go outside and die.

I stood there for a few more seconds and then opened the door.

Oh my god...
