- One year later

Y/n walked along the beach, groaning and dragging herself along. She knew she was supposed to be jogging, but hey, he wasn't looking right now, and she was already so close.

"Oi! Who said you could slack off? Keep going."

She jolted, raising the weights again and forcing herself to go faster. Her feet kicked sand everywhere when she stumbled, but she never, ever stopped.

Aisawa watched her from the distance, her figure beginning to turn into a silhouette from the sunset behind her.

He stretched, in similar sweats to the girl's, waiting for her to reach the next lifeguard tower. She'd been running back and forth across the beach like this for months, getting heavier weights every time they did so.
When she fell into the sand, he prepared to run up to her, but she didn't seem like she was giving up.

"Ugh!" She shouted, sending sand into the air as she got up. The weights she'd been wearing on her legs and wings felt like they'd make them snap, but she knew it was making her stronger.
She tripped again, smacking her hand into the pillar of the short tower with a grunt, finally letting the weights fall down into the sand.

She didn't even have the energy to unstrap the weights on her wings yet.

Groaning loudly to herself, she fell on her knees and arched over, drenched in sweat.

"You're covered in sand." The scruffy Teacher of her's having reached her said, chuckling.

Did my man just chuckle? For real?

Y/n raised an eyebrow, along with a wing and stared at him. He was smiling.

"What's that you're doing with your face? It's weird, stop it."

He did with a raise of his eyebrow in turn, then back to his normal grump, and she sighed dramatically. "Thank god, I thought you were having a stroke Aisawa!"

"Ah yeah shut up kid. I'm just surprised you went through with this all these months. You might actually be something one day..." he ruffled her hair, sand going everywhere, and she beamed at him.

But then he let go with a sigh.

"but I'm not going to get your hopes up."

She squinted at him, raising her wings with a sudden panic rising in her teacher, and then flapping madly.

The scraggly raven shielded his face with his forearms, sand smacking him and covering him completely.

That brATT-

When it stopped, she waited for him to glare at her from under his arms, and then ran towards the water to avoid his wrath.
"I'm getting in there, you don't have to give me another one of your speeches about 'ohh don't think you're gonna be a hero so easily~!'"

She bounced around, wavering her voice in a crappy impression of him while he watched her boredly.
Well.. he watches everything boredly doesn't he.

Sighing, she plopped down onto the damp sand, no longer caring if she got wet. Besides, she wasn't planning on flying home anyways.

"...What're you doing?"

"I'm..... I just need to get over being nervous for the entry exam. And also my legs are jelly."

Aisawa didn't show it, but he was proud. He was a lot more than a little proud. She certainly wasn't the awkward mess she used to be anymore, though it'd been cute, she'd grown strong.
