I'm Sorry Chaton

Chapter 2

The newly transformed Ladybug swung across Paris to the Eiffel Tower, where she heard the crash. She looked above her and saw Chat fighting a random Akumatized victim. He saw her from the corner of his eye and started to smile. This wasn't a happy smile. It was a sad, sweet smile tainted with sad, sweet memories.

"M'lady," he whispered under his breath not breaking away from Ladybug's stare.

A blast from the Akuma caused Chat to tear away from her gaze and continue fighting. It was harder for him now that his lady was gone. She alone had the power to purify the Akumas, but more importantly, she was the only one who could fix everything after the attacks. Without her Miraculous Ladybugs to fix the damage, Chat Noir had to be careful about what was destroyed in the battles. He missed having his lady around and remembered one of the last times he saw her being herself.

Three months ago- Chat Noir's POV

"Too slow Chaton," Ladybug called back to me.

"Don't worry. This cat will always keep up with his lady," came my fast reply. I already knew she would scold me for even coming close to flirting, but she just laughed that sweet giggle of hers instead and kept running towards the battle. I arrived moments after her and couldn't believe my eyes. Hawkmoth himself was attacking the city, not one of his minions.

"Fight me Ladybug and Chat Noir," he cried out to us," Stop me once and for all. If you can..."

"Come on, Kitty!" M'lady bravely swung towards our opponent. We battled for a while neither side backing down when suddenly I felt a pressure on my wrist. I was being dragged towards an alley and before I knew what was happening I saw Hawkmoth's face merely inches from mine.

"What do you want Hawkmoth?" I spat.

"You already know what I want, Adrien."

I looked down to make sure my transformation was still holding. It was.

"H-h-how did you find out? Who told you?!" I cried out.

His reply came, "Well it wasn't hard to gather clues considering I live with you my dear son."

"Son," I thought to myself, "No. It can't be my father. There's no way."

"It's not possible!!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. In shock, I backed out of the alley away from my fath-- Hawkmoth. Away from Hawkmoth.

Present Time

"Snap out of it Agreste," Chat reprimanded himself, "You need to focus on defeating the Akuma." He went back to fighting with the villain as he dodged blow after blow.

Ladybug knew this was her chance. She took the opportunity to attack Chat while he was distracted fighting the akumatized villain. When Chat turned the other way she lunged towards him and grabbed his wrist dragging him towards her.

"I've got you now Chaton," Ladybug cried as she lunged forward to grab his ring.

"Paw-don me, but I'm going to have to go. I've got an Akuma that really needs to be stopped," Chat replied as he wrenched himself free. He inwardly cursed himself for his untimely pun.

He kicked Ladybug in the torso launching her backward and onto the hard concrete. He watched her fall onto her back and wince in pain.

"I'm sorry M'lady," he whispered to her through a flurry of unwanted tears, "so, so sorry."

Ladybug watched as her former partner ran away, leaping after the Akuma. She wouldn't dare tell anyone, especially Chat, but a single, unnoticed tear slipped down her face that night as she watched her kitty run away.

The second she tasted the saltiness of the tear as it hit her mouth she scolded herself for being so weak. She was better than this. Better than these emotions. Hadn't she cried enough these past few months? Hadn't enough tears been shed?

She cleared her head and started to get up when a sharp pain in her stomach sent her falling back down. She cried out in pain. "What did you do to me you stupid cat?" After multiple, futile attempts to stand up, she resigned herself to her fate and laid back down to rest.

"Knowing my kitty, he'll come back," she reassured herself, "I don't know why, but he always comes back."
