The Armor She Wears

The Fires Inside Her

Fires may cover her world, but moonlarks will rise from the ashes. Sophie read the sentence over and over. It had been weeks now since her interview with the elf news but they made her seem so mature for a fifteen year old. She could pretend all she wanted but she was no queen.
"My queen?" A timid maid stood in the doorway. Sophie raised her armor clad arm and waved her in.
"There is a letter from Mr. Forkle"
Sophie looked up and took the letter from the maid. Grabbing the knife from her belt she tore it open and read.
Sophie,
The Neverseen have taken over Atlantis and my friend there is keeping me informed. It appears they hope to break down the force field as a sign of power. But there is another thing I must warn you about. Your friends, the Vackers and Mr. Sencen are coming. Please try to make them feel welcome and don't tell them about your newest ability. I'm afraid what they would say and you might hurt them.

Sophie cursed and threw the letter across the room. She hated her cowardly friends for leaving and now a year later they want to come see her.
"They have seen nothing" she muttered.
"What miss?" The maid was shaking in the corner.
"Nothing. Leave"
The maid ran out of the room and Sophie mentally closed the door behind her. If Mr. Forkle said she had to keep her new ability a secret, then she could have a little fun when her friends came.
Sophie smiled, "They won't see me coming the little cowards"
Snow fell softly outside and she opened the window to let herself into the roof. She navigated her way around the broken tiles and lifted up the one she had been lifting up for many moons now. Underneath it was a solid gold sword. Sophie retrieved a bottle from her pouch and poured the clear poison on the tip of the blade.
"Well now, I don't play to play nice"
Sophie grabbed the sword and sheathed it in her belt. She was finally ready to see her friends again, whether they would live to remember the experience.
