"Auntie, give me a dollar please..." I quickly found some loose change as the neighborhood crack head followed me to my car.
"Here auntie, be blessed." I ignored her mumbling as I sat in the car and locked my doors. I had just got off from a long shift at Family Dollar. I was so sick of working this dumb ass job, dealing with these ghetto ass customers. I massaged my temples as I crunk up the car and proceeded to go home.
When I pulled up to my little apartment I checked my phone: 5 missed calls. I rolled my eyes as I realized they were all from Dre, my sensitive ass ex. Dre was an athlete who I'd met in middle school and never seemed to get rid of. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't a bad guy, just too clingy for my liking.
As soon as I reached my door step I got a text: call me back. I know u home. I frowned my face up. This nigga was crazy. Crazy in love or something. I replied: I don't feel like talking. And went on with my night. I took a shower, ate some Chinese leftovers and lied in bed. I had a habit of checking Instagram before going to sleep. It was something like an addiction, but hey I had deleted all of my other social networks.
Why can't I just come over to talk? I rolled my eyes. Omg. Dre was never the type to get the message. Ok only for a little. I replied. Fifteen minutes later he was at the door.
"Whats up with you?" Dre stood eye level to me, about 5"3 which was another thing I didn't like. Despite this, he looked damn good. His smooth chocolate skin smelled of Polo cologne or something, and his teeth were pearly white. His little fro was flawlessly picked out with a clean tape up. Jesus. Sometimes I questioned myself on why I treated him the way I did. "I'm good", I replied "what is it you wanted to talk about so badly?" Dre dropped his head and looked back up at me. "I wanna make us work."
Dre knew how I felt about us talking again. I just couldn't see it in the near future. Of course I forgot to mention how he'd do anything to make us work. I walked over to the kitchen trying to think of an excuse. "I just don't think we should be together Dre, it's not going to work." Dre took a deep breath and began to walk to the door. As he turned the knob he mumbled, "I guess you prefer my cousin huh?"
My mouth dropped as I stood there, stuck on what he'd just said. Only a couple people knew that I was involved with Dre's cousin- my cousin Nia and God.
