It was a bright new
morning, kids were shouting and shoving as they approached the building that had the Konoho symbol on the front. It was the first day for some while it was just any other day for others. A little pink haired girl peeked her head above the ones who towered slightly above her. Messy bangs fell in front of her eyes which made it hard for her to see. "Oof!" A small sound came from the child as she found herself bumping into the back of another. "S-sorry about that!" She squeaked. "How about you watch where you're going, brat!" An angry feminine voice growled out in front of her. The young girl flinched. "I-I'm so sorry... I will..." She whispered attempting to move past the slightly older girl. "Pft. Big forehead." She scoffed, a herd of giggles could be heard behind her. The little girl frowned and continued on her merry way."So! I'm telling you Naruto! That fish was huge!" A voice piped up as the pink haired girl entered the room she was assigned to. "No way I'm believing you, Ino!" The boy, presumably named Naruto, scoffed in reply. The girl, Ino, pouted. "Fine! Believe me or not. But maybe Sasuke - kun will believe me!" She squealed in a dreamy voice, hands clasped beside her face as she closed her eyes, obviously in a daydream. Naruto rolled his cerulean eyes. "Or Neji! If only I can get noticed by either of them!" The little blond girl let out a sigh as she leaned over her desk holding her head up with an obvious scowl upon her features. The girl ignored the two as she sat in an empty desk nearby, listening intently to the murmurs and whispers going on around her. "What's with that girl's hair...? What a strange color." "Her bangs are so ugly. She's probably trying to cover up that large forehead." "What's with that raggedy outfit? Yuck." The girl frowned and covered her ears quickly, trying her best to block out the taunts. Naruto and Ino who sat nearby had overheard the conversations between their classmates and curiously turned their attention to the pink haired girl. Naruto blinked while Ino gazed thoughtfully. Suddenly a loud yell snapped the two children out of their thoughts. "Aya! Stop it! You're being a bully now!" Someone called nearby as a slightly older brown haired girl shoved the pink head against the wall. "Ha! She's just a freak ya know? Like, who on earth actually has pink hair?" She scoffed and stared down at the girl who struggled to stand up below her. "I bet it would look better if we cut these ugly bangs and showcase that big forehead of hers!" She said, kneeling down and yanking on the younger girl's hair causing a pained yelp to escape past her lips. Ino and Naruto bristled at the scene and Ino, being the braver of the two blondes, jumped into action. "Hey!" She yelled catching the older girl's attention. "Let her go Aya!" She hissed, pale blue eyes fiery. Aya smirked and yanked even harder. "I'll let go if you hand me over those scissors!" She pointed to the desk next to her. Ino glared and stood her ground. "Of course not! I said let her go!" She barked once again. Aya was getting impatient with Ino before another voice broke in. "Aya." A boy called causing the girl to immediately drop the younger under her. "Um, y-yes Neji - kuuun?" The girl asked, innocence seeping into her voice suddenly. "Let the girl go. This is only her first day after all. Don't act out and get us all in trouble." He sighed, obviously not in the mood to be dealing with the likes of Aya at that moment. "Yes Neji - kun!" The girl yipped and walked towards her group like an obedient little puppy. The girl stared up at the boy through her bangs, emerald green eyes wavering. "Th-thank yo-" "Oh there's no need to thank me. I didn't stop her for you." The little boy's voice came out coldly. "I in fact think a haircut might do you some good. Oh, and some better clothes too." He eyed the girl up and down before turning on his heel and walking away. Sakura stayed on the ground, unsure how to deal with her current situation. "Hey! Are you okay??" A sudden squeak came from the little blond girl who hurried to her side. "Y-yeah.." She replied sorrowfully and gave a weak nod of her head. Ino quickly grabbed her by the hands and helped her stand. "Hey, don't worry about Aya! She shouldn't bother you anymore now that she had been snapped at by Neji. I also wouldn't take Neji's words to heart. He's kind of mean and blunt to everyone actually." Ino stared up in thought. Sakura didn't respond and instead stared at the ground between her and Ino's feet. "But anyways.. I'm Ino! Nice to meet ya!" She grinned and placed her hand out to greet the pink haired girl. She hesitated for a second before finally replying in a small voice. "My name's Sakura.."
Ino smiled and took her hand. "Sakura! That's a pretty name and it fits too!" She giggled and began dragging a hesitant Sakura towards her table where Naruto still sat. "Naruto! Meet Sakura." Ino introduced her. She stared down, eyes covered and hands clutching the cloth of her plain grey shirt. Naruto made a face at the strange girl but then smiled lightly in reply. "Hello Sakura." He gave a big toothy grin, whiskers stretching across his cheeks as he did. Sakura could only return a half smile. After a few more minutes of Ino going on about her tall tales and Naruto denying them and Sakura mostly being silent, the academy teachers, including there's, Iruka, finally came and organized all the children into their assigned seats. Sakura had luckily been placed beside Naruto but unfortunately not Ino. A quiet, mysterious, black haired boy took the spot beside her, Sakura paid him no mind. After the day had ended the new trio walked out of the academy doors together. "I hate having to sit next to Shikamaru and Choji." Ino whined. Naruto laughed. "Why not? They're cool!" Ino pulled a face. "How are they cool? All Shikamaru does is sleep while Choji eats." She sighed exaggeratedly. "Seriously, you're so lucky Sakura. Sitting next to Sasuke - kun." Ino pouted and crossed her arms. Sakura couldn't help but give a tiny smile. "Sorry Ino." She said softly. "Hey! I wanna bring you home and give you a make - over!" The tiny blonde suddenly blurted, grinning wildly. "Eh!?" Sakura's eyes widened at this and she began to advert her gaze, anywhere but at Ino's playful expression. "Oh come on! It'll be fun Sakura!" Ino giggled and grabbed her by the wrist. Sakura blushed and finally gave in, nodding. "Yes! See ya Naruto! Tell Uncle Minato and Aunt Kushina I said hi!" She called, dragging Sakura towards her house. "Okay! Bye Ino, bye Sakura!" The blond haired boy yelled back before they disappeared out of sight.
At Ino's home, Sakura had found herself sitting awkwardly on a firm yet comfortable couch surrounded by all kinds of floral decorations. "Okay! Let's see what we can do!" Ino piped up pulling her "supplies" back towards the living room table in front of Sakura. "First we have to do something about that hair of yours." Ino stuck out her tongue, ignoring the slight look of indignance on Sakura's face. Ino began to brush Sakura's bangs to the side and pull her hair more toward the back. She was successful in getting Sakura's hair out of her face but... "Wow. You're forehead really is big." She gasped, hands covering her mouth. Sakura pouted. "Hey Ino! You're supposed to be helping me!" She tantrumed. Ino then burst out laughing. "Okay okay! Geez." Ino inspected her before something lit up in her head. "Oh! I know!" She stood up and raced into another room leaving a confused Sakura behind. When she returned she held a red bow in her hands. Sakura eyed it quizzically for a second. The blond quickly tied it around Sakura's head, putting it into a nice bow that really complimented her hair. "There! All done." Ino yipped and then grabbed a mirror, letting Sakura see herself. Sakura stared at it for a second before a frown suddenly graced her lips. "What's the matter?" Ino asked, frowning as well now. "It's just... My forehead." She rubbed it and looked down, unsure about Ino's decision to uncover it. Ino scoffed and tapped her on it lightly. "Ouch!" She yelped. "Don't hide it because then it makes it more noticable!" She sighed, hands on her hips. Sakura took her words into consideration. "Yeah, maybe you're right." Sakura squeaked. Ino smirked. "I know I'm right."
The next day Ino insisted on walking with Sakura to the Academy. Sakura had no complaints. "Great outfit today Sakura!" Ino winked. Sakura blushed slightly, she was wearing a plain red shirt and knee length green shorts. It was obvious this outfit was recently bought too. The two girls walked side by side peacefully until a familiar voice caught their attention. "Hey!!! Ino, Sakur-" The voice was suddenly halted and so was the owner of it's movements. Naruto's eyes lit up like blue sparks as soon as they landed on Sakura. The pink haired girl was practically glowing as he observed her and her new look. "Naruto???" Sakura asked, thin eyebrow raised in question. "I-I-I-" He squeaked, unsure of what to say. Ino rolled her eyes. "Hey! Baka-ruto!" She hissed. He soon snapped out of his trance and shook his head, face a good dark shade of pink. "Uh, sorry! Heh." He grinned and shyly made his way up to the two, smiling gratefully to Ino and then returning his attention to Sakura. "You look really pretty today S-Sakura!" He said sweetly, voice wavering subtly. Sakura couldn't help but blush slightly. "Thank you Naruto!" She squeaked happily.
The three new friends made their way towards the Academy gates.Every kid when Sakura entered the class stopped and looked towards the three. Sakura and Naruto bid Ino a temporary farewell and headed over towards their respective seats. Sharp dark eyes landed on the pink head as she took a sit next to the boy who Ino claims to be her true love but the gaze on her was short-lived as they snapped away to the opening door at the front of the classroom. No one said anything as Iruka - sensei walked in and began with his lecture.
Sakura smiled, zoning out at the thought of having new friends of only the second day of being in the Academy, in fact, Sakura had a good feeling that these two would be her friends for a very long time.
