The Aviankind of Tenivassia are very kind and welcoming people. They resemble birds, with beautiful feathered wings, light hollow bones, rudder feathers along their waists, and with raptor-like feet and claws. They have extra pectoral muscle to help keep them in the air, and they are very invested people when it comes to arts.
The Aviankind do have magic, but they are connected to the sun and the stars. They are very active during the day, and while a few are active at night, most prefer the daytime to fly. You will find Aviankind in the higher up mountains and in trees where some make their nests, as well as in the Capital City, where they work as teachers for schools and as dance instructors, or art models.
The Aviankind were not one of the first races that came from Tenivassia. The first group flew to the island when the area was first developing, and offered their assistance to the first Queen, who accepted their offer, and they soon took residence thereafter. The Aviankind are now a thriving race with many separate flocks, the largest one being in the mountains in the west of Tenivassia. They are known as the scouts, or the artists, of Tenivassia. They can fly for hours before growing tired, but this often depends on their wing type. If an Avian has the birds of a hummingbird, for example, they often tire much faster.
Usual looks;
The Aviankind can resemble any bird, and often are brightly colored and beautiful. They take great pride in their wings and will always groom their wings if they think they are dirty, and they use special dye to change the colours of their feathers. Some are spotted, some striped, others plain or patched.
The Aviankind are very rich in culture, and they love to sing, dance, craft, and play music. They are often found to be the freelance artists, musicians, and dancers of Tenivassia, and value music greatly. They also have their own customs and traditions, such as their mating dances and their songs by firelight. The Aviankind are a very close knit familial group when in a flock, and sometimes two flocks will join if they intermarry. Flocks are usually comprised of one large family.
Aviankind are very gentle creatures and are very fragile. They are known as the emotional of the races, the ones in touch with their feelings and what they love. They are honest and kind, always ready to help. The Aviankind make clothes for everyone, and they love to specially design beautiful things. They make special clothes to accomodate their wings and their rudder feathers, and are very clever creatures.
They have very special bonds with birds, and resemble the creatures very closely. They often chirp or screech or twitter, and they hop a lot like birds. They love to fly, but some of them can't fly as well as others, depending on their wing type. Aviankind are always ready to help, though, if someone can't fly for very long and they need a lift.
Aviankind mating rituals are known to be the most peaceful and beautiful. They choose their mate and begin a dance, and should that mate accept, then they keep dancing with them and finish together. This is showing that both accept the bond, and this happens on what they call a 'glow night'. This is a night, once a month, when Avians can select mates. If they don't want to choose a mate, then they dance with friends. Aviankind paint their bodies in bright colors to match their plumage on a glow night, and it is always on at least one full moon.
Like Rendii, Aviankind lay eggs. Their gestation period in the womb is two months, but outside the hatching gestation is six months. Aviankind take hatchling-rearing very seriously, and love their fledgelings very much.
Aviankind build nests as a way to show off during breeding days, but also just to keep their homes spick and span. They are very clean creatures and dislike being dirty, and even on their adventures will take time to clean themselves. The Aviankind have no official languages, but they are the first to believe in evolution rather than the creation of life. They believe, alongside the Dragonkind, that life has evolved and developed rather than created by a higher being. They do not have religious ceremonies.
If Aviankind have a hatchling that is a 'bad egg', or in other words, deformed or malnourished or mutated, they will dispose of it. They will know if an egg is a 'bad egg' before it hatches, and they will simply push it off a ledge to break. They are very loving parents, but do not believe in raising chicks that will not grow to be successful. There is only very few of this that happens.
When Tenivassia was colonised by humans and orcs, the Aviankind did not resist, but rather fled. They flew to the mountains and began a new life there, where the largest flock still lives today. They avoided slavery and attack by escaping, and although they did not fight, they are proud of not falling prey to it.
