Chapter 10: Human
"Okay, so what do we do, Kar?" Lena asks the blonde when they're in her office. Kara made herself comfortable on one of the chairs in front of Lena's desk, taking her time to let her blue eyes roam around her friend's office and almost forgetting why she's in here. It never failed to widen her eyes in awe. Everything in Lena's office was organized, like perfectly neat. Her office alone tells a lot about Lena. This caused her lips to twitch upward.
The other woman failed to suppress a soft chuckle upon seeing her friend check her office like she was seeing the stars for the first time. So adorable, she thought. "Earth to Kara," Lena spoke softly to regain the blonde's attention. "I know that my office is way much more orderly than your apartment, but we still need to figure out what just happened yesterday.." She jokingly said, trying to lighten up the elephant in the room. Despite joking about how messy Kara's apartment could be, Lena knows deep inside that she loves it more than her own tidy office.
After she heard the words Kara spoke yesterday, Lena was not able to utter a word. She didn't know how on earth she was able to hear Kara's thoughts. It is just impossible no matter how you look at it. Kara hearing her thoughts has high probability but not the other way round. She couldn't fathom what just happened between them.
Kara's face turned serious. Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration, thinking of ways to solve the mystery now wrapped around her abilities and Lena. Even with high intelligence, Kara couldn't just understand how on universe was Lena able to do that, not on purpose though. "We need to ask somebody else who knows more than I do.." Kara answered after being stuck with her mind for five straight minutes. "I am only getting perplexed because of this puzzle. I thought I knew everything about my race, but I guess not.." She added right after, her tone lowering as her sentence processed. Maybe after all this time, she is different. However different that is, Kara did not want to feel excluded from the society ever again.
Lena's eyebrows met in utter confusion. "And who could that person be?"
There were two persons in her mind, but Kara knew that only one is available at all times. She wasn't sure about the other one, but the person she has in her mind will surely come to her in an instant the moment she tries to contact them. She looked up from her fidgeting hands to the emeralds already staring at her before she spoke.
"Gefiora Pandeion."
Lena couldn't forget who that person is, not after she revealed that Kara can read minds. How I wish to possess that ability.. She thought with a frown. Then it just occurred to her that she was able to hear Kara's thoughts, causing the frown to be replaced with a smile. "Okay, I remember her.. Let's summon her, then." But Lena didn't know how. "Wait, how are we going to summon her when we don't even know her location?" Lena must have forgotten about the tiny little string connection between her race.
"Don't worry about that.." Kara told her with a smile. "We're all connected somehow, remember?" Kara winked, and Lena felt her mind stop functioning. She thought that it would be great if she said or did something to fluster the blonde, which is something she loves to do. How Lena loves to be challenged.
"Maybe we are too.." Lena winked back, a playful smirk lingering on her red coated lips. Kara flushed brightly in an instant, her cheeks were on full blush that reached up to her ears. The blonde couldn't help but to lower head down. Enjoying her sweet torment, Lena continued to release words as she felt her confidence boost because of the blonde's reaction. "Would you like it if we were connected, huh, Kara?" The Luthor's voice was dark and husky which caused shivers to run down her spine.
Kara dared herself to look up to those bright emeralds in an attempt to retort something smart. Instead, what she saw made her regret her actions instantly. Lena's eyebrow was raised in a daring manner while her lips were curved into a mischievous smirk as her beautiful emeralds were looking through her long lashes, making it seem darker than usual. She swallowed as she felt her throat drying up for unknown reasons. That should be a crime! It sparks these stupid sensations that I didn't know I had in me! Kara huffed to herself, referring to the thing Lena does with her eyebrow, while her fingers reached to touch the bridge of her glasses, attempting to calm her uncontrollably nerves down.
