Jane felt his muscular body through the thin fabric of his shirt. Tension and anger yet love and desire towards their close past were all on display; even through the darkness of the private office restroom. Jane could picture him. The chiseled, round, thin face, dark eyes, and killer smile. He was the person she feared, but still hated and loved to her very core. An old enemy resurfaced to finish what he had started.
Jane laid on the bathroom floor trapped by Alex's 250-pound weight. She held back the reaction to scream because she knew if she did it would only fuel his anger even more. She looked up at the outline of his shadowed body waiting for a response to interrupt the sound of their heavy breathing.
"It's Valentine's Day my little flower, I told you...three years would finally come around and I would be out so I could come back to this small town and find you." His words were venomous, but the way he spoke was very sadistic.
His statement was the sad truth. Even if Jane moved as far away from her home as possible, he would still find her. Alex was clever. That's what Jane liked about him at first, but that same characteristic now scared her and made her terrified once Alex got out of jail.
She stayed silent underneath him as tears slid down her face. All of the strength training and self-defense classes were a paid fail. Calling a taxicab every day just to make it to them was a complete waste of money. Jane picturing them both together as kids was upsetting. Their bond was unbreakable, and it seemed so real and warm when they were little. It was always Alex and Jane until age went up and insane jealousy got involved when making new friends.
Jane knew that Alex loved her, but she never thought that his love was an obsession and creepy. Alex told Jane that he actually had stronger feelings towards her as soon as they got into high school, but Jane told him that she didn't feel the same.
"I love you too Alex, but just as a friend and nothing more. I'm sorry." Those few words should have never come out of her mouth because she instantly regretted it. She didn't want to destroy their friendship if they started dating and in some odd case it didn't work out. So she came straight forward with how she felt.
Both of them were still in silence. Jane thought of how she could talk to Alex and not make him even angrier than he already was. But Alex broke the silence again.
"I want to know why...why do you not love me?" His voice sounded hoarse as if he had been crying too.
"I did everything, Jane. I would always get you whatever you wanted, even if you didn't say anything. I'd make you happy when you were upset. Even make you laugh when you were having a bad day...", Alex paused waiting for a response.
Though no words came out, Jane had plenty of things to say in her mind.
"I-I LIED!" That's all she said before she started to cry hysterically.
"The day you told me that you loved me I wanted to say it back so bad! But I was scared!" Jane kept crying as she felt Alex get off of her. She curled herself up into a tight ball on the floor and was preparing herself for whatever physical assault Alex had planned.
She felt him grab her underneath her arm and forced her up. Jane screamed but quickly fell silent as she felt herself be squished against Alex's chest. He was hugging her. Tightly. She felt like her eyes were going to pop out of her head.
"When you tricked me into coming with you on "vacation" I finally saw how much love you had for me. I realized my feelings for you were more than just a friendship. I loved you just as much as you loved me!" Jane felt Alex loosen his grip at the sound of her words.
"I love you too!" Alex said seductively. He kissed her softly on the forehead.
"You know what..." Jane suddenly spoke.
"Hmm," Alex responded.
"Let's run away...just you and me...forever." She felt Alex smile on her forehead. He separated from her and headed towards the lights. The room lit up with a white glow, Alex turned around and came face to face with a loaded gun and a golden police badge.
"Alex Hoffman. You're under arrest for trespassing private property and violating probation." Alex looked into Jane's eyes. There was no sense of humor or remorse for what she had said. He was quick to open the bathroom door but ignorant to understand what was on the other side.
Five other cops stood in a straight line waiting for him. He had been tricked and made a fool of. He looked back at Jane with a tear sliding down his face. He looked at the other cops defeated.
"You are too blinded by love Alex. It's time for you to get the help you'll need to overcome this obsession with me," Jane said from behind him.
"It's for your own good and for my safety." Jane was handed cuffs and she instantly put them on him. Alex didn't struggle or fight back against her; he was in shock.
"I'll be back." He said softly so only she could hear.
"I know.", was her only reply.
