-Chapter One-
"Un-settling In"-Prince Gumball's POV-
My kingdom was under construction. You'd think I would be happy about the whole situation, and I honestly should be, but the kingdom was only considered mine due to some unfortunate circumstances. My family, they were gone. Every last family member. I went on one trip to do some research for a new element I discovered, and once I returned I received the news. There was a fire. I'd rather not go into all of the details, so I will just leave it there and maybe get into it another time.
Anyway, the kingdom was being rebuilt due to the destruction. The building was completed, but the staff were still moving in furniture and painting the walls in the beautiful pink shade that I had chosen. It would be lonely here all by myself. I had my staff, of course, but I suppose it's just different.
I made my way up the staircase to the hallway that would lead to my bedroom. Everything was pink. What else would you expect from someone who was literally made of gum? I opened the large door and closed it behind me before locking it and sighing to myself. My plans for the rest of the night would be to just shower, do some science, then get ready for bed and try to settle in more. That was a hard task since this place didn't feel much like a home anymore.
I slowly removed my clothes and put them in my dirty clothes bin before making my way into my personal bathroom and turning the warm water on. I got in and let out a soft sigh as I felt the warmth hit my skin. It was slightly comforting. I washed my hair and the rest of my body with a vanilla scented body wash before getting out, drying off and putting some pajamas on. Now, science. It was the one thing left that kept me completely sane.
Making my way over to my desk, I put my glasses on and sat down in my chair, looking over my papers from the previous experiment I had been working on... before the accident. The papers had some black marks on them and a few holes from the fire. I struggled to focus, but had to try my best. "Molybdenum is a silvery-white metal that is ductile and highly resistant to corrosion. It has one of the highest melting points of all pure elements — " THUMP!
I was interrupted in the middle of my sentence by a rather loud noise that seemed to come from a few feet behind me. I jumped up and pushed my chair away from me, nearly falling over as I knocked over a chemical on my desk. Damn it. I turned my head to look in the direction of the noise only to see a tall, thin man on the other side of my room. He was running his fingers over my curtains and looking around.
"This place seems a lot quieter without the king and queen, don't you agree?" He asked. I choked on my breath. Who did he think he was, welcoming himself into my room and just saying something like that? How did he even get in? My door... my door was locked. "Who are you? How did you get into my room?" I managed to get out. He just looked at me with his very noticeable dark red eyes. Vampire.
"The window." He shrugged it off as if it were normal for him to just break into people's homes and act like he owned the place. "Who do you think you are? This is not your home. Get out before I call the guards," I ordered. I would not be having any of this. I thought he might feel threatened in the slightest, but he showed no signs of worry. Slowly making his way closer, a smirk formed across his face. What in the hell?
I was frozen. If I was able to move, I would have in a heartbeat. He got so close to me that there was no doubt he felt my breath on his skin. Placing his hands on the desk behind me, his hands next to my hips as he stared deep into my eyes... my soul. I was pinned there. There was no way out. "Oh, I'm so terribly sorry, your highness." You could very clearly hear the sarcasm in his voice. Who just breaks into someone's home and acts this... this disgusting? He was a creep.
"G-Get out! Guards!" I shouted loudly. I had no idea what this man had in mind, but I would not be part of any of it. It was quite possibly the strangest interaction I had ever had. "Well, I suppose it's now time that I get out of here. See you around?" He pulled away with that smirk of his and pulled back the curtains from my window before jumping out. I didn't care to look out to see if he was alright. I was paralyzed.
Moments later, one of my banana guards unlocked the door from the other side and pushed the door open, a weapon in hand. "What's the problem, Prince Gumball?" He asked in a concerned tone. I took a moment to catch my breath and ran my fingers through my hair before shaking my head. "A man... was just in my room. He's gone now... but he was in here. I swear it." The guard looked around the room momentarily before sighing. "Your highness, I think you have been very stressed out lately due to the... circumstances. I don't blame you, of course, but I do think it's time that you relax and get some rest. If you need anything else, I will be right outside of this room."
And with that, the guard left the room and locked the door for me behind him. Maybe I was just stressed out. Perhaps I was hallucinating, I'm not completely sure. It seemed very real... the way his eyes stared right through me. He had no fear. After collecting my thoughts, I walked over to my bed and climbed in, getting under the sheets and comfortable blankets until I was cozy. I stared at the wall for what only seemed like a few minutes, but turned out to be hours, thinking about the encounter. It made me feel all weird and out of place somehow. After enough contemplation, I finally dozed off and slept throughout the night, occasionally waking up from nightmares of the fire. I would never get over it.
I woke up at approximately 6:00 AM to get ready for the day and fulfill my duties as the official head of the Candy Kingdom. I pulled on my clothes and made sure I looked presentable before leaving my bedroom and making my way to the kitchen for my first meal. Let the day begin.
