School
[In history class.]

It's the next day and we are in Mr. Tanner's class once again. He is a brittle, abrasive man despite only being around 30 years old.
Tanner is babbling along. "The Battle of Willow Creek took place right at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls. How many casualties resulted in this battle? Ms. Bennett?"

Bonnie looks up shocked. "Um...a lot? I'm not sure. Like a whole lot."

Tanner gives her a stink eye. "Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Ms. Bennett. Mr. Donovan? Would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your embedded jock stereotype?"

Matt shakes his head. "It's okay, Mr. Tanner, I'm cool with it."

Tanner hums and look around the room, before landing on Elena. "Hmm. Elena? Surely you can enlighten us about one of the town's most significantly historical events?"

Elena shakes her head softly. "I'm sorry, I--I don't know."

"I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Elena. But the personal excuses ended with summer break." Tanner tells her rudely.

Zira scoffs. "Excuse me."

Tanner turns to her. " Is there anything you would like to input, Miss Gilbert."

Zira nods and raises and eyebrow. "Do you like you job. Like honestly how bad would it hurt to get fired." Mister Tanner opens his moth, looking confused. "Nevermind that. I don't really care how bad it would hurt, However if I hear you say something like that ever again I will make sure that you no lover have a space in this town."

Tanner opens is mouth to respond only to be cut off again.

"There were 346 casualties. Unless you're counting local civilians." Stefan tells him, making everyone look towards him, including Zira. She notices that he is already looking at her.

Tanner nods, forgetting about the events that just occurred. "That's correct. Mister...?"

Stefan shrugs. "Salvatore."

Tanner hums. "Salvatore. Any relation to the original settlers here at Mystic Falls?"

Stefan respond bitterly. "Distant."

"Well, very good. Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle." Tanner smirks, making Zira roll her eyes.

Stefan shakes his head. "Actually, there were 27, sir. Confederate soldiers, they fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. They were wrong. It was a night of great loss. The founder's archives are, uh, stored in civil hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts, Mr. Tanner."

Tanner nodes bitterly. "Hmm."

Later that evening, Zira was in her room getting ready for the party that happens every year. She not to sure how to feel a party was the reason her parents passed. But she knows that her parents would want her to happy and to have fun.

Stefan arrives at the party and is listening for Elena, Bonnie and for Zira. She's not with them.

Bonnie laughs. "Just admit it, Elena."

Elena giggles. "Oh, okay, so he's a little pretty."

Bonnie scoffs a laugh. "He has that romance novel stare."

Caroline walks up to Stefan. "Hey! You made it!"

Stefan nods an smiles portly. "I did."

Caroline smiles in a slutty way. "Well, let's get you a drink."

Stefan hesitates. "Well, I'm--"

Caroline completely ignores him. "Oh, come on."

Before Caroline can drag him completely away Zira comes up to them. "Hey, you're here."
