The little baby girl with bright blue eyes laid in her pure white cot. She was crying due to the intense, chilling wind flowing in from her open window. Her room had dark forest wallpaper decking the walls, and a chandelier that resembled a strong tree branch. Her cot was in the far corner, the one closest to the large window that led to an open balcony.

Her oak door opened, and in came a woman with long blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. Her skin was honey meadowsweet, and she looked as though she was a fallen angel. She gathered the crying baby girl in her arms, rocking her gently.

When the baby had stopped crying to look up at her mother, the door opened yet again to reveal a tall brown-skinned man with pure black hair, and green gem eyes.

'Oh David, I can't do this, I just...can't' Came the sweet honey-like voice of the mother.

'You know we must. With our enemies, she will never be truly safe here, not until she has learned to shift.' Came the soft, yet strong reply of the father.

But upon seeing the regret filling the face of his wife, he lifted his hand to cup her cheek and brushed away to tear that slid down her soft face.

'She will return home, I promise you that.' He whispered, pulling his wife and child into one last family hug.

Together, they walked out the door, down the marble steps, and into the large living area. There, waited what looked to be fifty or so people, all looking at the floor, heads hanging low.

Then one stood and walked over the couple holding their baby. She had long light brown hair and brown eyes, light but dark tone to her skin, and was shorter than the mother of the now asleep baby girl.

'Take care of her.' Whispered the blonde-haired women, tears trickling down her cheeks.

'I will.' With a nod, the short woman took the baby from the crying mother's arms and held her close. At that moment, a cry sounded from outside. Everything went silent for a split second, and time seemed to hold still.

'They have come, you must get to safety!' Yelled the short male that had run in. He had a strong build, one of a fighter, and had ginger hair.

'Take Jana and go.' Urged the mother of the now awoken baby.

Terrified, the short woman nodded and ran from the room, and down the long hall. When she reached the escape tunnel, she took one final glance, before dashing down the winding corridor, deep underground. She ran and she ran, never looking back. But she could hear the cries behind her. She could smell two different groups, one her own, but one a danger. She urged her legs faster and faster. She had to get the baby to safety.

Finally, after what seemed hours of running, a speck of light could be seen far off. The exit was close! With newfound strength the short woman beat her feet harder and faster. The ladder was so close, and her breath caught in her throat.

She reached out with her free hand and grasped the cold metal. Chills were sent down her spine. She climbed oddly up the ladder but could hear the cries getting louder and louder. They were coming, and she had to get the baby out of the line of danger. So, with all her energy, she wrenched open the trapdoor above her head and leapt out. Slamming the door shut, she ran into the forest.

She had done it, the baby was safe! But now there was the task of getting the child to a safe home, somewhere that no one from her true world would look. And that meant conquering her fear. The human world. So with deep breaths, she surged forward.

She let the forest surround her, let it keep her safe. The soft chirps of the birds and the crickets song mixed with the whistling and howling of the wind as it sped through the trees calmed the woman. The strong smell of eucalyptus flew through the air, engulfing the two females.

Eventually, the sounds of the busy cars overpowered the songs of the forest, and a white path could be seen.

This was where the goodbyes started.
