1000 feet too short

As I gaze up at the top of the iron fence, I see a bird, such a pretty bird, it soars over the fence and onto the other side of the world that I desire to discover.
It's so tall. It goes on forever. Tomorrow...I will ask her.
I walk into my little cottage, mother is asleep. I will make dinner.
I look out the window, the sun is seeping into the mountains turning into beautiful colors...orange, yellow, pink, and RED! Ah, red. red is my favorite color!
You see, I'm 16 years old and I have never left home. Mother says that it is too dangerous. I have only been outside in the yard, and after the yard...there is a gate. A gate so big! It circles around the cottage and is 1000 feet tall, made of iron. There is no way to get through it. The space is too small. My dream is to get past the gate and enter the world of freedom! I want to explore! But it's impossible.
I open the fridge, all the eggs are gone. Hopefully the chickens have laid more eggs.
I put my coat on and grab my basket. I peer into the chicken coop, 3 eggs! Thank goodness! That should be enough for mother. You see, I want to stop eating. If I stop eating, I could possibly get thinner, and maybe...just maybe I could slip threw the space of the bars for one night without mother knowing. I can't starve myself though, I must eat something.
I walk out of the chicken coop and walk over to the apple tree and pick one red round apple.
I walk inside and start making some eggs for mother.
As the eggs sizzle, I quickly wash my apple. I will eat it when mother wakes up so she sees me eat. As long as she sees me eat...she will know that I am eating.
"Darling? Mother doesn't feel too good. Make me food." my mother demands as she walks out of her room rubbing her eye.
"Yes mother, here I am making you some eggs. Why don't you feel so good? What's the matter?" I ask.
"I think it's just a small fever and cold darling, I am going back to bed, I won't be out for a while. Meanwhile, make me breakfast in bed. I will see you later tonight for dinner, right now I must get some sleep."
"Yes mother, please go lie down." I say.
She turns and wobbles back to her room and shuts the door. She never lets me go in there. I have no idea what it looks like, but I guess today I get to go in there if she wants breakfast in bed.

I flip the eggs onto a plate and fill up a glass of water. I put it all on a tray. I walk over to her door, I knock 3 times.

"Come in" I hear her say.
I open the door, it is completely dark. there are no windows in her room.
"Be prepared, I am turning on the light. I don't want it to hurt your eyes." I say.
"No! No! Don't turn on the-" she yells.
It's too late, I already turned it on.
I look around the room.

Oh. My. God.

"Turn it off!!!!! I said TURN IT OFF KATHERINE!! Now!" She screams. I am puzzled...in shock. I drop the plate of food and water and fall to the floor.
