"Did you ask?"
"Ask what?"
"If we can go!"
"Go where?"
"That place I told you about!"
"Uhh, yeah, sure, I'll get right to that."
"I'm serious. What isn't to like?"

Actually.. there wasn't a thing I didn't love about the idea. My sister had told me a story about some kids who went hiking in an woods.
She said they got lost and wandered far from the road. The sun began to set and they began to hear things. Screams of ghosts. Screams of girls, men, and animals in despair.
Of course I told her they were just legends.  Good stories, I will say, but not true to the point of staying up worrying about.
Jenna loved the woods and so did I. I didn't want her to worry about some old folktales that would make her frightened of nature.
I think I got the message across because she won't stop bugging me about asking Dad to take us hiking. Hiking and camping in the middle of nowhere. Hiking with my 13 year old sister did not sound like my ideal way to spend the summer. But I really wanted to go.

It was just a legend.

Or so we thought.

The wind howled through the trees. The elevation messed with our heads. It made us believe the echoes would scream as the sun rose and fell.
The midnight snapping of trees were only nightmares, wild dreams.
Maybe we shouldn't have been so ignorant to it in the beginning.
It was just a legend, wasn't it?
