CHAPTER ONE- JAMES’ POV
Placing my toothbrush back on the side, I quickly checked my messy hair in the mirror. After randomly plucking out strands and trying to fit them into the right places, I decided that it would have to do. I was already running late and my friends Franklin and Cody were probably going to leave without me any minute now. I ran into my room and grabbed my grey backpack from the side of my bed, slinging it over my shoulder and rushing down the stairs.
“So, you’ve finally decided to grace us with your presence?” Cody sneered, looking like a zombie. Both of them had dark circles under their eyes and messy hair, like me.
8:30 is definitely too early to start school.
“Ugh no sarcasm! Too early!” I groaned, chuckling with them. I picked up my bike from where it was resting on the side of my house. I rarely lock it up, it’s rusty and old and I doubt anyone would steal it. Next week I turn 17, so I’ll be able to start learning to drive, and hopefully I’ll have my own car in a few months. Until then though, I have to ride to school... in the freezing cold.
Mounting my bike at the same time and Franklin and Cody, I pushed my foot on the peddles and winced as the cold air hit my face. My nose was going to be red by the time I got to school.
…
Locking up our bikes onto the rack, we started to walk to the school entrance. I seriously envied the girls around me, they could all huddle together for warmth. I hugged myself tightly, knowing not to suggest my radiator techniques to my friends. Franklin would probably kick me, and there’s no doubt Cody would make some kind of cruel comment. Neither of them would ever let me live it down.
We got to the entrance and hurried inside, not wanting to spend another moment in the harsh January air.
“Bye guys, I’m going to my locker before first lesson.” Franklin said, and I noticed that was the first time he had actually spoken this morning. I don’t blame him, I’m not much of a killer cold morning person either.
“See you later” Cody and I chorused in sync, waving as he turned to go in the opposite direction.
“What have you got first?” I asked Cody, still wiggling my fingers to try and regain feeling in them. All the students bustling around us looked like they where doing the same kind of things, rubbing their hands together or breathing hot air into them. Winter sucks.
“Um, PE ugh” He sighed, miming slitting his throat. “What about you?”
“Biology” I replied, suddenly remembering I had homework due in that I had left at home. I’d have to go and explain this to Mr Bramwick now
“Got to go, bye!” I called as I started making my way to my biology class.
By the time I got there everyone was already seated and I didn’t get a chance to talk to Mr Bramwick. The lesson dragged on but eventually ended.
