Drowsily, consciousness returns. "Uggg." I groan. My head feels light and I can't focus on anything. The room is pitch black, and there was nothing to see. Where am I? Pain, then, explodes in my head. My hands, upon instinct, go to it. I hit my head somehow. But how? I try to reach into my thoughts to figure this out but come up with nothing. I don't remember why my head hurts this badly, or how I hit it. And for that matter, I don't remember anything before waking up here. Sighing in defeat, I let my hands fall away from my head only to feel something else. Something circular. Grabbing it, I figure out it's a flashlight. I fiddle with it for a while before figuring out how to turn it on. Turning it on, I let it the circular light move around the room.

The walls were made of red brick. The floor made of gray concrete. There didn't seem to be a door or window to use to get out of the room. I am stuck. I then figure out I'm wearing a dark blue t-shirt and long black pants. I also seem to be wearing... handcuffs? What? My ankles have cool metal cuffs around them connected to a chain to the ground where they are bolted down. My wrists are the same way. What is going on? This is getting stranger and stranger by the second. Looking around on the ground, I try to find something that I can use to unlock the cuffs but have no luck. I do, though, find a small white roll of paper next to me. I must have dropped it when I woke up. Picking it up, I unroll it and start to read.

Dear friend,

I'm sure you won't remember me, or anything else for that matter, but I only want you to read this message. My name is Laura and I was your friend. Your name is Alex. We have been friends since pre-school. You and I are currently 19. But enough of small facts. You are probably wondering why you are cuffed and in a small room with nothing but a flashlight. Well, you did something. Something unforgivable. You- I gasp, not believing what I just read. Me? Doing that? No, there's got to be a mistake. I could not have done that. No. Never.

I continued these thoughts until I composed myself and finished the rest of the letter. Yes, you did that. Now you know why you're here. In this small room. And you're going to stay here until you perish.

I hope you enjoyed this letter from your friend and think about your actions.

- Laura

PS The flashlight battery will run out soon, so make the most of it.

I drop the paper, shocked by what I just read. How did this happen? Why did this happen? I can't even think of why I did this. Why did I do this?

Author's Note:

I had no idea where I was going with this story, you probably could tell, but I think it's interesting. I have no idea about you but I think this is pretty good.
