"Hey..." I say to Ellis. Ellis has been my friend for ages now and is an amazing friend. Okay, we have only been friends for more like two years. But still, that feels like ages.
"Hello Sam." Ellis replies. His voice is soft and smooth and relaxing. "How are you?"
"I'm good." I reply. His eyes are a vibrant blue and stand out from his tanned complexion. His hair is light brown and wavy, just reaching above his eyebrows.
"That's good." He replies. "I'm good, if you're wondering, just hot from the sun. It seems to be wanting to shine as brightly as possible today."
"Ha ha." I say, laughing at his joke. "Do you want to go get ice cream?" I ask.
"Sure!" Ellis replies happily. "Let's go!" We get up and walk towards the local ice cream shop that is three blocks away.
"Hey, I've been meaning to tell you something." I start, feeling butterflies in my stomach.
"What is it?" Ellis asks, "Is it about you wanting to go out with that girl from physics class?" he teases.
"No..." I start, wondering how I should say this. Should I say this? It'll be awkward if I do. And he might not feel the same... "I wanted to know what your favorite flavor of ice cream is." I finally respond after what felt like ages. The butterflies in my stomach grow.
"You know that already!" He exclaims.
"Yeah, but I want to know it again."
"Fine." Ellis sighs, "It's Chocolate. Happy now?" He smiles.
No, no I'm not happy. I'm nervous. I just want to say what I feel but I'm scared. Scared that you'll not feel the same. "Yes, I am." I reply, putting on a fake smile.
"Good because we're here, The Ice Cream Shop!" There's a big smile on Ellis's face, like he didn't have a care in the world. I wish I can be the same way right now, but I'm scared. No... Petrified. I'm petrified that he'll not feel the same way. Petrified that... he'll reject me. "Let's go in." He continues, opening the glass door and receiving a wave of cold air in return. "Come on Sam!" Ellis calls.
"Coming!" I answer. I force myself to take a step. And then another. And another. And another until I'm inside the shop smelling different flavors of ice cream at once. I take a moment to take everything in before following Ellis.
"Let's get ice cream!" We walk in line and before we know it we had the cool wonderful food in our hands. "Let's go eat outside." Ellis says. We walk outside and sit at a table.
"I have something to tell you." I start, wanting to say what I feel.
"Yes." Ellis says, telling me to continue.
"Um.. I..." I suddenly have butterflies in my stomach again. "I love you." I finally answer, waiting to be rejected. Waiting to lose him. But, something else happened. He kissed me.
"I do to, Sam."
Author's Note:
Ahhh!!!! I love this story and think it's great. It's, clearly, an LGBT+ story. (I'm a supporter of them.) And gosh, I'm proud of myself for this one. XD Until next time!
