Hi, I'm Vanessa Malfoy, no relation to Draco Malfoy sadly. I'm seventeen years old and well, this is my story.

From a young age, I've always been into books. Fantasy, fiction, sci-fi, you name it. Reading was always a part of my life, its the thrill of being able to envision myself in a book, feeling what the characters see and being able to sketch them in your head. The movies take most of that away from you. You can call me a book worm and some may have already jumped to the conclusion that I'm a 'nerd' but I'm not all socially awkward and addicted, im actually a big peoples person. And I mean, everyone loves me. Im kind and spontaneous and pretty outspoken. Anyway, today im getting everything I need for my first day at a new school tomorrow. John Mckanny High School, home of the Athletics All Round School Record holder, the Gruesome Grizzly and the best academic results in the country. I was lucky to get into this school.

I loved my old school, Ridgewood High, but after our house burnt down, my mother saw it as a sign to move to another town and start over. I was used to it though, we always had to move when she was relocated for work and it just so happened that her company's other branch had been looking for someone of her qualifications to come down here.

After breakfast, my mother and I left home to go shopping. She said I needed a new wardrobe, school supplies, folders and whatnot. We were also buying groceries and looking around for what the new house needed. It had adequate furniture for a house, courtesy of house insurance, but it still needed something to make it feel like home.

In the mall I went around every shop, I bought at least three new outfits and pairs of shoes, things here were much less expensive than in my hometown. We bought my school books and all that jazz then we ate lunch at a restaurant named Julian's confectionery restaurant.

"Are you excited about your new school?" She asked, her cherry coloured lips were plastered into a wide grin, stretching from ear to ear and enhancing her beauty somehow. When I smiled I always looked like I was forcing it, but that didn't stop me.

"for the umpteenth time ma, I'm nonchalant about it." She rolled her big blue eyes at my response and continued to gracefully eat her double cheeseburger, taking a sip of coke now and then. I despised coke.

A lot of people said I was almost an exact replica of my mother, I was sort of the darker, coilier haired version. My mother was Caucasian with blue, piercing eyes and long flowing straight brown hair. She had a thin face with high cheekbones and freckles that spotted her usually rich cream skin from the neck down. I thought she was absolutely beautiful and boy did she have a body that could kill.

I, on the other hand, had the same blue eyes, maybe a little softer, coily brown hair and a somewhat thin face but my cheekbones were better described as sharp and I didn't have freckles. My skin was a light chestnut and I spotted a single dimple on my left cheek, that could've come from my dad.

"I bet five dollars you'll have a boyfriend before the term ends." She said after a moment of silence. It was my turn to roll my eyes.

"really mum!" my mother had absolutely no filter but she was my best friend and I was a little stubborn and naïve at times so I needed it.

"what? I mean look at yourself love, you're absolutely gorgeous." She nodded, biting a chip in half.

"well yeah, I'm your daughter. But after what happened with Mason, I think ill be single for a while." I said sadly. Mason was my most recent ex. I was stupid in love with him but things didn't work out, possibly for the better, why? Well, let's just say he was a bit looney.

"oh, yeah. I understand, but don't let one bad relationship turn you away from others that could have the potential to be great." She spoke.

"wise words from a woman with a mouth stuffed with chips and tomato sauce, thanks, mum," I said.

She nodded and smiled over again before continuing.

afterwards, we were meant to hit the furniture stores but mother dearest  got a call to come to the office. she took the bags of things we bought and told me to go on ahead and see if i liked anything.  the first store i went to was pretty cute, it mostly sold bathroom things like robes, towels and scented candals. i was definitley going back there.

the next place was much larger. it took up the space of two average stores in the mall, which made sense because they sold all home things, from tiles to appliances. i started in the kitchen scetion because my mum and i loved to cook. i saw some cool touch stoves and space saving counters that i could invision in our new kitchen, it would be great. then i moved onto the bedroom section. i wanted my new room to resemble my old one, contrary to my mothers wishes. it would just feel like home.

the first thing on my mental list was bed covers. i walked around the bedroom section, feeling some beds too even though i had one. and thats when i first saw him. he was lying on one of the king sized beds, his pale hands resting one on top of the other on his chest like he was going sky diving. his somewhat slender body was still, apart from the light movements of his abdomen, up and down, as he breathed. his eyes were closed, black, wavy hair spreading messily on the covers. he looked so... at peace. i think i stood there for a whole minute, admiring his sharp jawline and perfect nose, well almost perfect. it seemed slightly pitted and dicoloured by the sides, but only slightly.

"im waiting for it to swallow me whole." he said. i jumped a little as i was taken by surprise. his voice was a bit deep, very raspy, very welcoming. when i took in what he said i noticed he had kept his eyes closed the entire time, he must have felt me staring... or maybe my presence.

"uh, what?" i asked.

"the bed, its soft, feels like im just floating, like on clouds. however clouds cant possibly carry the weight of a human so eventually ill fall, im waiting." he said calmly, a small smile playing on his perfect pink lips.

"oh, well can i join you?" i asked him stepping closer, forgetting that i was in a store where this probably wasnt allowed. my mother, my new start, the reason i was here, these thoughts left my mind and all i could think of was getting closer. his aura was just drawing me in, and if i could just smell him...

eyes still closed, he moved an inch toward the edge to make room for me on the large bed. it was pretty high so i had to do a little jump to get my 165 cm tall self on it. when i did, i laid down next to him, leaving space betweeen us that i thought was appropriate considering he was a stranger still. i thought it creeepy to mirror his exact actions so i put my hands by my sides, sort of in a shavasana way, to help me relax. i took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. he smelt like mint, i loved it.

we lay there for a couple of minutes before i felt him shift. i waited a while before opening my eyes to see him now carrying the weight of his upper body on one elbow resting on the bed. he was facing sideways, towards me, the same smile on his face. he now had on a big, black framed pair of Ray Bans which would explain the dents on his nose that i had observed earlier. i thought he was going to introduce himself or something but instead he picked up a twist of my hair and brought it to his nose. he inhaled its smell, cocoa butter like i hoped, like my conditioner. he then smiled a little more, put it down, and before i could ask why, he was gone. he hopped off the bed and walked away. no goodbye and no way of finding him ever again.

unless i looked for a strand of hair he could have left behind but im not creepy like that.
