I took a deep breath and let myself enjoy the fresh air outside. I was on the road for hours and I totally forgot how it felt to be outside, breathing fresh air. Even thought I could stop at the nearest gas station, I didn't want to. I just wanted to come at the conference as quick as possible, so I had time to take a look around and review my notes for the last time.
I looked at my wrist watch, seeing that I was only 2 hours early and that's when my mind started panicking. I didn't have as much time as I thought I had. I immediately returned to my car and started reviewing. It was my first time representing my father at such conference and as I knew that I will probably be the only woman amongst all men, my speeches had to be perfect. Not only that. On every question I must know an answer. There was not another option for me.
Suddenly a knock on my window distracted me from the pages in front of me and as I already knew who it was, my eyes rolled. With a press on a button, the window beside me started rolling down.
"Good afternoon, Jack," I looked my Alpha into his eyes, letting him know how annoyed I was because I was distrubed.
"Oh, Leith don't even try to scare me away with this look," I swear if I were givena chance I would probably kill this jokester. It wasn't that I hated him, but he always got on my nerves with his immature acting. Who would expect that kind of acting from an Alpha?
"I'm sorry Jack, I need to prepare for tommorow. Can I suggest you to check out how Olive is? Being alone with a year old child is probably exhausting," I said, already pressing the button for the window to go up.
Olive was Jack's soulmate. They've found each other when they were 18 and in the following 5 years they built their own life, so when they get a kid, everything would be perfect. And so it was. They were happy and when Olive was around, Jack was even tolerable.
"I love how our pack has such a responsible Beta. I will tell Olive you say hi," I was blankly starring in front of myself, waiting for Jack to go. As soon as he did, I started going through my notes again. I needed to finish reading them, before Jack came back.
"Heya, Leith we should probably go," well, my mission to read everything has failed. I opened the car's door and stepped out of it.
"So, shall we go now?" he winked at me, but I shook my head.
"Wait, I just need to change my shoes," I wasn't crazy to get into a meeting with old sneakers I had on my feet. And I also wasn't crazy enough, to drive in my heels. I quickly opened the back of my car and changed my shoes. I grinned bitwhen I first stepped on the floor, trying to adopt the feeling of new shoes quickly.
"Women," I heard Jack's mumble while I passed him. I smiled, wondering how he would stand the pressure of being a woman. We always needed to be perfect.
"So, how are Olive and... the kid?" I tried to break the silence that followed us since the parking lot, but as I couldn't remember the name of their child, I just felt extremely stupid.
"His name is Charlie. Well, Olive said they are both great and that your mom is helping her a lot...," he continued chattering, and I immediately turned him off my mind. I had more important things to think about. I needed to find a way how to convince a room full of old men that my way is better.
The conference was a part of being a member of Union packs. Union packs (UP) consists out of 12 packs which's lands are relatively close. We have a pact to help each other, so twice a year we held conferences. These conferences had different topics, it all depended on each pack's need.
But there was only one problem: the people!
Each pack has sent their Alpha, their Betha and their successors. The successors were there just to observe and learn, how to handle these meetings when they will ascent their positions, but the Alphas and Betas were there to decide and pass out wishes of their pack. That unfortunately meant that the people who could decide, where mostly old Alphas and Betas so they had a completely different mindset as us.
Me and Jack were special. Jack's dad died a few years ago and as he couldn't bring his son to the conference, he didn't have his successor with him.
As for me, I didn't even have kids to bring there. My dad wasn't dead, but he decided he will retire and leave me in command, even though girls aren't suppose to take the titles. That is also the reason I will probably be the only women in the whole conference. And that terrified me.
