"Look at the new dorky girl at our school!" Someone shouted teasingly.
I pulled my head deep inside my hood and walked to the lunch area. Everyone giggled and whispered things in their mate's ears loud enough for me to hear them clearly. I pulled out my iPod from my pocket and turned the volume on loud, trying to tune out all the whispers and giggles. I've only been at this school for one week. My mum has been very picky about which school I attend, she either says the school has too many bullies or it's just not good enough; so I never stay for more than three semesters in one school. This is the fourth, and I hope last, school I'm going to. I didn't have a very pleasant start at this school, everyone thinks I'm dorky. They say things about the way I dress and they call me a nerd just because I always have books in my hand and I wear glasses. What's wrong with wearing glasses? Besides all the teasing, which I was already starting to get use to, I'm like see-through. Everyone ignores me as if I'm not there.
I signed and sat on the damp grass alone in the corner. As I chewed on a piece of dried fruit I looked at other students that sat in groups gossiping excitedly. That was when I spotted a boy with short brown hair that wore a pair of worn out jeans and an ordinary
t-shirt, sitting on the ground talking to his mates. Something about this boy made me pause to stare at him, I wasn't sure what it was that caught my attention but I couldn't take my eyes off him.
"Hey Cassie," someone greeted in a quiet voice.
I turned to see who it was. Two girls stood in front of me with a polite smile.
"Hi," I answered shyly, surprised that someone actually wanted to talk to me.
"Can we sit with you?" The girl with long blonde hair asked.
"S-Sure," I stammered.
"My name is Danielle. And this is Hilary," she gestured towards the girl with brunette hair next to her.
I recognized them because they were both in my English class, but I never really notice them because they were one of the quiet ones who don't draw attentions to themselves. The ones who I never thought of stood out from the crowd and lend me their hand. We chattered happily until the bell rung. I looked up and saw the boy with brown hair got up gracefully from the ground and strolled casually to his next class.
I stumbled my way to my seat once I got in class. As I walked clumsily down the small aisle I tripped over someone's foot and my books dropped to the ground. I tried to ignore the sudden burst of laughter that filled the room and bent down to pick up my books; but a pair of hands beat me to it and stacked them into a neat pile. I stopped breathing for one short second when I saw who it was; the boy I saw at lunch held the books in front of me with his lips turned up into a gorgeous smile. His deep blue eyes captivated me. It was like staring at an ocean with the waves crashing gently. I could almost feel the cool wind on my skin, the sound of the calming waves and the smell of the sea water.
I had to look away because I could feel my cheeks flushing bright red.
"Here are your books," he said politely.
"Thank you," I said as I quickly grabbed my books and took my seat.
"James is helping the dorky girl," I heard someone tease, he's name is Andrew. James's best mate.
James sat two tables away from mine "Be nice."
I settled in my seat, and again I couldn't help myself from peeking at him occasionally. The way he walk, the way he talk and the sound of his laughter somehow gave me a weird feeling, like I wanted to be with him.
The final bell rang and everyone rushed out the door. I found out that Danielle and Hilary lived two streets away from mine, so we walked home together. The cold winter wind made me shiver as I sprinted into my house.
