Nyxie's POV
When I woke up the next morning I could hear the TV playing from downstairs. The devil must be up. Jeff was sitting on the couch watching the news. I looked up at the screen and saw the faces of my best friend and each of her family members.
"Local family was brutally murdered last night around midnight. Officers say the victims were 'torn apart from head-to-toe', and that they had been 'vicously slaughtered'. It appears that sixteen year old Trinity Campbell had suffered the most damage. Acorrding to the authorities her organs were 'ripped out and spread across the room'. To say the least, her insides are now on the outside. The police say they're not sure why this killer payed special attention to young Trinity, but that it might have something to do with a message he or she left on the wall of the teen's bedroom. Written in blood were the words: Go to sleep for what you did to her. The identity of the killer remains unknown, as does the meaning of his message. If you know anything that may help bring justice to the Campbell family, who tragically lost their lives, please contact the authorites or your local news station." The lady from Channel 8 News recited. Throughout the entire broadcast I stared into the eyes of my former best friend. I couldn't seem to move my gaze from the screen even after the story was over. Jeff turned off the TV.
"She's everywhere, yet she's nowhere. She's in my thoughts, in my dreams, on the 6 o'clock news, but still her soul is no longer here... " I murmured.
"I'm sorry." Jeff said quietly.
"Okay, but it's not going to fix anything. Trinity's still dead and my parents are still dead." I said coldly. His face turned red, which I didn't know it could do, and he revealed his surprisingly white teeth.
"I already apologized for killing them too!" He snarled. "I don't know what more you want from me!" He cried in exasperation. This obviously wasn't a big deal to him. You'd expect any warm blooded creature who posessed a beating heart would have an immense weight over their head after killing another human being, but not Jeff. No, Jeff wasn't bothered in the slightest. Homicide? No biggie.
"Maybe you shouldn't have killed them in the first place!" I yelled.
"I did it for you." He snapped.
"You're full of bull shit." I growled.
"Didn't you hear what the lady on the news said? The message on Trinity's wall read: Got to sleep for what you did to HER. WHO DO YOU THINK HER IS?" He exclaimed as he threw his arms up in the air.
"I don't care why you did it." I croaked. "From now on just leave my friends alone. Do you understand?" I asked. He nodded. "Good." I said. I could feel tears stinging my cheeks and I quickly wiped them away with my sleeve.
Jeff's POV
The wet, sloppy tears continued to roll down her cheeks as she lectured me. I don't think she knew that she was crying.
"I don't care why you did it. From now on just leave my friends alone. Do you understand?" She asked harshly. I frantically bobbed my head up and down in consent, because I didn't ever want to see her cry again. I thought that killing Trinity would make things better for Nyxie. Or maybe part of me already knew that it wouldn't; I just knew that killing Trinity would make me feel better. "Good." She said. Then, she realized that she was crying and she quickly dried her face with the edge of her sweatshirt.
It notably pained me as I watched her drag herself out of the living room. Apparently, I'd really messed up, but it wasn't my fault I was insane. There was something wrong with me, but I couldn't do anything to help that. All I wanted was to kill her, so I did. Truly, I had done it for Nyxie. I had good intentions, but I guess Nyxie didn't care about that. The only thing that mattered to her was that her best friend was dead and that it was because of my misconduct. Or poor judgement you could say. I had wrongly assumed that killing Trinity would please Nyxie once she understood the pretension behind the malicious act.
