Eve stumbled into the warm house and kicked the door shut. She skidded into the living room and plonked the bags down on the table next to her wife, Sam.
"I bought a VR system." Eve blurted bouncing slightly.
"Really? I told you I'd buy you one for your birthday!" Sam sighed, pushing her hair out of her face.
"I know, I know, but that's seven months away and it was on sale... besides you can give me something else," Eve winked at her partner.
"Evelyn Rose Harvey!" Sam exclaimed
"I'm kidding!" she laughed at Sam's flustered expression.
"let's go set it up!" Eve exclaimed and tugged the box out of the plastic bag.
"Have you tried it out yet?" Sam asked as she got scissors and cut the tape.
Eve shook her head no, lifted the box carefully, and put it on the carpet
"Ugh, why are there so many cords!" She whined plugging them in.
After what seemed like hours of plugging, unplugging, and a few tea breaks, the set was all ready.
"D'ya want to go first?" Eve asked as she slid the headsets towards Sam.
"Hell yes!" Sam snatched it up and attempted to put it on, it didn't work.
"Err... Eve... can you help me with this?" She asked, embarrassed.
She laughed at her wife, Sam was slouched over defeatedly with the headset slowly slipping up off of her long, dip-dyed sandy blonde hair. Eve took off the headset and gently tucked a strand of hair behind Sam's ear.
"Stop..." She whined and squinched away from her partner, "You know I'm sensitive."
Eve laughed and gently pecked Sam on her cheek.
"I know, anyway, I thin you push this button to loosen the headband. Like so!" She demonstrated.
"Thanks, love," Sam responded as she teetered to her feet and groped around for the controllers. After a couple of embarrassingly long minutes, she finally found them and with a short "aha!" she finally loaded up the game.
"Beat Saber?" Sam asked turning her head in Eve's general direction.
"It came with the system, I think you swing the sticks to hitboxes or something..." Eve hummed.
"Ah, gotcha..." Sam said as she started the game, "Whoa, shit this is trippy!" she exclaimed swearing profusely and waving her arms around, missing all of the boxes.
Eve laughed loudly, "Here lemme help you.." She stood up from the couch and walked behind Sam. Eve grabbed her wrists softly and guided her through the motions. After a few minutes, she stepped back and watched.
After a few songs Sam took the headset off, her hair plastered haphazardly over her face, "That was really fun, your turn?"
Eve nodded and took the headset she looked down at it and grimaced, " You got it all sweaty!" She accused as she wiped it off with her sleeve
"It's tiring!" Sam defended, "My arms hurt..."
The other laughed and put on the helmet.
"It can't be that difficult... how do I move?
"You... ya don't you just wave your arms..."
"Ah..." Eve trailed off before selecting a song.
"So I just do this?" She asked swiping in the air.
"Yeah, I guess so can't see what's going on but I guess." Sam laughed.
"Whoa shit what the fuck was that!" Eve shouted lunging out of the way.
Sam absolutely goes bonkers. completely bat-shit feral.
"They're walls, " she wheezed, "you gotta move."
Eve nodded and continued playing. After a few more minutes flung herself across the room and crash-landed into the side of their sofa. She immediately took off the headset
"Owww..." she moaned quietly and rubbed her head.
Sam ran over and immediately helped her up.
"What the fuck happened!" she exclaimed.
"There were a wall and a box.. what else was I supposed to do?" Eve whined.
They paused for a second.
"Point taken. Anyways, I think that's enough for tonight, let's go to sleep."
Eve nodded and shut off the system.
"I had fun."
"I did too, need help getting up?" Sam asked lending out a hand.
Eve thanked her and took her hand. They both hobbled off to their room together, with Eve's head leaned slightly on Sam's shoulder
