My feet thud as they hit the ground. My knees shake with uncertainty and I feel my heart leap into my throat as I catch myself. I stumble over to a group of bushes and conceal myself just as the morning patrol of guards come into view. I dont think they saw me, good.

I hold my breath and wait for them to pass. I then trot over to the edge of the forest, my boots thumping lightly on the ground with each step.

I think to myself as I run under the shadowed trees. I hate my king, my father. I hate castles. I dont want to be king. That's my father's job. It always will be if I can help it. Screw orientation, I could care less about becoming one of the stupid seven rulers. Like they'd ever take me seriously anyway. They're all such stuck up jerks who give my region the shit end of the stick every time. My region is littered with all of the dumbass junkies who got dumped here all because they couldn't keep their grimy mitts off of pixie dust. It makes me sick. Why fuck yourself up with one of the most toxic drugs known to elf kind? It's stupid. They're stupid. I hate them all.

I leap up as I run and grab onto the nearest tree branch. I hang off of the branch, swinging slightly as I listen to the world around me. I listen to the birds sing, the wind blow, and my heart pounding against my chest. I drop from the branch and try to control my ragged breathing. Which isnt very hard to do since I've gotten mostly used to running by now.

I walk along the path only worn down by me. I drink in the sweet aromas of the flowers around me, some are slightly bitter smelling but that's ok. It's all still perfect. A lot more perfect than the other place I could be. Big marble pillars everywhere you turn. A daunting room that holds only three colours and a bunch of benches. It would only smell like people and wine in there. I hate those smells. Wine reminds me of my mother. People remind me of my father. My mother, a drunken bastard who could barely do anything other than drink. She didnt last long in the castle, bad for the reputation. My father was a people pleaser. Always trying to kiss up to people, shine their shoes, give a loan, and always do it at the expense of me. "Oh, you need that washed? Here my son will do it. If you need anything else he'll do it too." I hated him for it. All the bargaining me around just to get me away from the castle.

I sigh and slump my shoulders a bit as I walk down the side of the hill to sit. I lay back until I'm looking at the sky. The sky is almost blue, it's still early. I sit there for half of the day, taking a nap here and there, but mostly watching the clouds drift across the sky. What I wouldnt give to be able to capture this moment, to live in its peacefulness. I stretch my arms out and breath deep. Thwump! Something heavy lands on my stomach, knocking all my air out and making me cough. I sit up and see my 'faithful companion' sitting on me looking furious once again. I chuckle at him, hes adorable when hes mad. He flattens his ears and hisses at me. What are you laughing at? You're supposed to be at the castle! What do you think you're doing?

"I'm relaxing, cant you see? It was perfect until you showed up." I say with a mocking tone as I grin at him.

Are you kidding me? Your father's going to be furious! You're absolutely crazy if you think hes going to let this one slide! He says with a snarl, bearing his teeth to make sure I got the message.

"Oh come on, it cant be that bad. He'll forgive me in the day." I give a big fake smile. "Now get off. You're heavy." He wasn't. But I didnt want him digging his claws into my thighs anymore so I pushed him off and stood up.

He puts on a relaxed expression and flicks the tip of his tail. Your father is not going to be happy about this. You're supposed to be at orientation right now. He says dismissively and starts walking away. His paws creating tiny indents on the damp ground where he steps. I scoff and walk after him. Leaving even bigger indents next to his.
